Boggart: Ali's boggart takes the form of a ferocious Manticore. Following a close encounter with one many years ago as a child with his sister, both of the siblings have retained a deep-seated fear of the nightmare-inducing beast. As it approaches him, talons clicking against the floor, his 'Riddikulus' charm causes all of the hair to suddenly fall from the beast as it taunts him quietly in a slick voice. Upon realizing it's nakedness, the Manticore's face turns a bright red in embarrassment as it hops around the room, smug tone vanishing from it's voice as it wails for anyone present to look away, all while attempting to cover its private areas with now comically oversized paws. Wand: Phoenix Feather, Hawthorn, 7 1/4", Surprisingly Bendy.

Favourite Lesson: Transfiguration: He enjoys being better at it than his sister. Also, there's a certain delicacy to the art that he enjoys doing well at. Least Favourite Lesson: Care of Magical Creatures: While it was an easy elective to take, he finds it extremely boring at times. The Professor is a nutjob, and half the animals they deal with ought to be put down or released back into the wilds, not cooed over like a baby. Extracurricular Activities: Seeker for Hufflepuff; Duelling Club

Appearance: Although the siblings are in the same year, the nearly 10 month gap between them is obvious. While Eva has taken puberty in her stride, Ali has yet to hit a growth spurt, barely reaching the height of 5'3" with a rather slim build. Although this makes him perfect for his House's Seeker, he still dislikes being so small, particularly when he already has to deal with being one of the youngest in his year. His lack of height and build lends itself to already low self-esteem, though he still takes pride in his appearance. Hair is always neat, clothes always looked after and looking good, wand polished every day. He's recently taken an interest in some muggle clothing he's seen students wearing around school, but doesn't dare to openly say so. Thanks to his mother's genetics, Ali has inherited olive-toned skin that has remained spotless (For now), full lips, and dark hair and eyes of a rich mahogany shade. He hopes he'll inherit his father's height eventually, but for now, the only resemblance to the patriarch of his family are thick eyebrows, thin face, and a tendency to snore lightly when asleep. Personality: As many are surprised to learn when meeting the Flint siblings, it was not Eva, sorted into Slytherin, who retained her deep-seated prejudice courtesy of their parents, but Alistair, sorted into Hufflepuff. Very early on in their first year, Ali retained his scorn for Muggle-Borns and Muggles, and it was Eva that shook off her parents discriminating influence and kept a more open mind. While Ali did come to loosen up slightly in terms of who he would consider being friends with (It took three weeks of him stubbornly eating and sulking by himself in the Hufflepuff areas for him to stop moaning about blood purity and actually interact with the many Half-Bloods in his House), he still has a sense of superiority about him that he can't seem to shake off. Now a fifth year, he rarely talks about it amongst his current circle of friends, as they tend to just boo him until he shuts up, and never seem to take him seriously. His dislike for non Pure-Bloods stems from nothing more than ignorance and a negative type of behaviour that is simply perpetuated by his parents. At heart, he's not a malicious person, and could never see himself do harm to others simply because of who they are. Still, he has much to learn in common decency and respect for his fellow students. While he'd never hurt a Muggle-Born, they are avoided with a barely hidden look of scorn - but also confusion. His parents have taught him all of his life to distrust and dislike those people, but it's much harder to do so when you actually spend time with them and realise they're no different than you. When avoiding his streak of prejudice, he seems to be a decent fellow. Quiet, but with a sly sense of humour and dry wit. Extremely competitive, but usually quite gracious about losing (Unless it's to his sister - that's a rivalry that won't disappear any time soon.). Low self-esteem brings with it a lack of confidence in his ability, and also cowardice. Cowardice in not standing up to his parents, telling them that they're wrong to be so prejudiced... cowardice in not agreeing with his sister so openly about his feelings for non-Purebloods, out of fear it'll get back to the wrong people and he'll be judged. Ali isn't particularly proud of his actions, and is struggling through school and puberty to try and change. Unfortunately, every time he goes back home for summer and Christmas, his parents undo all of the work he's attempted. Backstory: Alistair was the second child and only son born of two prestigious pureblood families; his mother, Renata Arias, came from a centuries old Chilean family witches and wizards, originating in Spain and emigrating to the country at some point in the 17th century. His father, Felix Flint, belonged to the Flint family, one of the "Famous Twenty-Eight" as outlined in Canterkous Nott's infamous Pure-Blood Directory. While some disliked their presence in such a controversial book like the Weasley family, the Flint's were proud of it. With Renata coming from similar prejudicial roots, she too appreciated her husband's pure family tree, and his stance on non-Purebloods. By the time Eva was born, it was pretty clear that both parents expected their children to follow in their footsteps. While Eva broke away from her parent's worldviews, Ali is still stuck fast in it, despite wanting to change on the inside. Unlike his brash sister, Ali had always been an unproblematic and quiet child. Rarely making a ruckus as a toddler and always doing as he was told, Ali tended to avoid his intimidating older sister and hide away behind his Grandmother. Funnily enough, Antonella had a far harder time changing her grandson's behaviour than Eva's - it was more difficult to encourage confidence and socialising than discouraging bad, bratty behaviour. His father's overbearing presence likely didn't help in this; with Ali being his only son, Felix took far more interest in him than Eva, taking him into work at a young age so that he could see what was going to be expected of him in the future. Naturally, Felix wanted Ali to be the next Minister of Magic, if he didn't get the job himself. However, Alistair was an introverted, meek child, and not one expected to go anywhere in life despite his superior intelligence over Eva, even at a younger age. Thanks to his abuela though, Ali grew in confidence over the years; sticking up for himself, and learning to use wit rather than clear threats as Eva did in arguments. However, he wasn't past procuring a wand from somewhere to "duel" his sister - though at that age, it was nothing more than shooting different coloured sparks at one another, running away laughing as they was caught by an adult. Sadly though, he wasn't able to quite shake off his parent's grip as well as Eva. More rules and standards to live up to him were pressed upon him, what with being the male heir to the family fortune and power. It was a lot more difficult to throw off their influence... even when joining Hogwarts. Despite his parents, Ali had learnt very quickly that his mindset had to shift just a bit to get through Hogwarts safely, and with making friends. Perhaps he would have been better off in Slytherin, which seemed to have a reputation for prejudiced purebloods... but he was put in Hufflepuff for some reason, and so, he had to change. Negative opinions relating to blood types weren't accpeted there, and on the brink of becoming a socil pariah in his house, he swiftly adjusted his behaviour. While some would call this two-faced, it was more in reality Alistair simply acting like himself, rather than putting up the superior front that had been built up for so long by his father. With them not constantly looking over his shoulder, he could just ask as he was: A somewhat goofy, quick-witted child who enjoyed staying up past bedtime to tell jokes with his roommates, to tease classmates for crushes in another house, or to help someone who'd left their homework last minute avoid a detention. Hogwarts had a great influence on Alistair, but unfortunately, everything disappeared the second he went home for summer to tell his parents everything he had learnt. Naturally, most of what he conversed was met with disdain and anger. He was eating, sleeping, and talking with non-Purebloods? Making friends with them? His sister was already letting down two great Pureblood families by her behaviour, but with him being the son, every insult and punishment was ten times worse. Ali would return to school the next term deflated, and silently vowing to not continue his terrible behaviour again. But of course, it's hard to turn on people you've lived with for a whole year, because his parents told him too. But then, he'd lived with his parents his whole life. Would disobeying them mean he didn't love them anymore? Such questions and hesitation over his actions has plagued Ali for the next five years. Of course, he had retained his friends, simply to not be alone... but he doesn't dare do anything too drastic just in case word gets back to his parents. Although he simply doesn't write to them beyond vague reports of how he is doing in school and Quidditch, he always worries about the other Purebloods for similar families in the school. All it takes is for them to tell their parents, who were friends with his own. Therefore, his behaviour is still a touch discriminatory, though a part of him hates himself for doing so. He wishes he could be more confident like his sister, but knowing he isn't simply creates more animosity between them. It's hard to pick between family and friends... particularly with O.W.Ls coming up. Maybe once he leaves school and home, things will be easier? Alistair doesn't know... he can only hope. Extra: Is fluent in Spanish, thanks to his mother. Like Eva, he retains a more positive relationship with his grandmother than his parents. He still doesn't dare ask her for advice though, in case it somehow gets back to his parents. Eva and Ali spend Christmas at Hogwarts, as they have since their First year - it's easier to be away from their parents, and considering the emotional distance, Christmas had never been a fun family holiday anyway. Their abuela visits them though, staying at 'The Three Broomsticks' for the two weeks to spend time with her grandchildren. She's the only one that put effort into the holiday back home anyway.
