The sharp pain across the back of Kai's hand caused by the tip of the sword belonging to the guard he was fighting snapped him out of his thoughts and brought him back to his current situation. The boy nearly dropped his blade as a result of the blow, but the intense battle was sufficient to distract him from the pain. Things then got worse as more soldiers poured out of the caravan to join the fight. Out of the corner of his eye, Kai spotted a large one heading straight for him. That was when an idea popped into the small teenager's head. He ducked down and rolled under the carriage, just managing to fit through the gap between the ground and the bottom of the vehicle. Both guards instinctively dove right after him, though, their larger sizes prevented them from actually reaching him. He then dragged himself out to the front of the caravan, only to almost be trampled on by one of the horses. The startled boy let out a yelp and quickly got to his feet. The two men were dealing with their own problems, but it was at least safer to be near them. Kai prepared himself to engage the two guards he had escaped earlier, assuming that they were coming around once they got out of the mess he had put them in. Sure enough, they appeared again, this time charging at him from both sides. This forced him to go defensive, blocking and dodging their attacks with hardly any time to get a strike in. The man in white, who had somehow managed to get on a horse, then shouted at them to fall back. Kai assumed that the loot was secured, and began actively looking for an opening to run, into the carriage or otherwise. He could only hope that Isago had plans to do the same.
