Another dream. No...nightmare was the word. What she saw, what she felt, in that instance scared her. It felt so real, like she was watching a movie screen. Like she could interact with it. She wanted to scream, to cry out at the girl. To let her know danger was there. She wanted to call the cops. She wanted to scream, especially when the figure stared right back at her. Like he (was it a he? She couldn't tell) saw her. She rolled out of bed. The covers were all but on the floor at this point. Whenever she had a nightmare, she tended to thrash in bed and wake up with nothing on her. She rarely remembered them, but when she did they were vivid. Bad. Real. She walked to her bathroom and leaned on the sink. She needed to steady herself. She looked in the mirror. She saw herself, but she saw something else. It was a passing vision. It was a man. Good-looking. Brown hair. It was only a moment, but she could make him out, albeit briefly. She was startled. She was jumpy from the nightmare. She had to be seeing things. She needed coffee before the day started. Walking into her "living room" (what passed for a living room. It was three rooms in one) and turned on the TV while she brewed some espresso. She grabbed her mug with the state of New York on it and the Statue of Liberty. It was ironic if you thought about it. Back home, there was the original York. Now, she lived in the new one. She did it again. She called that place home. Even if it was where she grew up. It wasn't home. This was home now. It had to be. She listened briefly as the TV played whatever news segment was on. She merely listened for weather and traffic so she knew which course to take to get to work. However, a segment caught her attention. "-reports with her head split open. It is too early to say..." Quinn ran to the TV and looked. The same woman from her nightmare was on the screen. Her smiling face in the photo to show the world what she looked like when her head was fully intact. She was real. It was real. What she saw was real. What the hell was going on?
"I dunno what to tell ya, sugar bear. I know I'm a gossip, but that's all the way back in Philly." Miracle spoke over the phone. As Quinn made her way to the subway, she called her best friend. Miracle was a police dispatcher with New York's finest, but she was from Philadelphia. "My family didn't say anything to me so they didn't know the girl. Sorry, sweetie." Quinn expected this. She didn't think she would get anything, but she had to find out more. "It's ok Miracle. Thanks anyway." Before she could hang up, Miracle kept talking. "Now that we aren't talking about depressing things anymore, let's talk about fun stuff! What do we got planned tonight? I need to have fun! Matt is being a penis again." Miracle referred to her on-again, off-again boyfriend of four years. Quinn has urged her to keep it off, but Miracle keeps going back. "For the sex only" she says. "I don't know. I got a lot going on.." she lied. Miracle picked up on that real quick. "You don't have diddly-shit, girl, and you and I both know it. You are the best in that lab and you can piece together faster than my nanna and her puzzles. Even if you had a full workload, once quitting time hits you get to leave, same as the others. Plus, pretty thing like you needs to get out there more. Find a nice man to cuddle with so you stop talking about depressing shit." Miracle was good at negging her, and sometimes she needed it. She didn't want to go out, but Miracle probably would keep bothering her untl she said yes. Quinn sighed, "Fine. Time and place?" Miracle giggled like she won something. Which she did. "Let's say....Neon? Around 8 o'clock?" Neon was a new club, pretty popular. She wondered if they would get in and then she remembered she was talking to Miracle. Of course they would get in. "Fine, but you are buying the first round." Quinn hung up before Miracle could protest as she got on her train and headed for work. Today was going to be a long day.
