[@CollectorOfMyst] The Tentacles rolled 6, 6, 2. The 6's triggered their special ability:

Smash - Tentacle To Hit rolls of 6 ignore the Hero's Defense. 

So unforunately not, no Defense roll was rolled in the first place :(
