Mostly it's to stake a claim to certain ideas. We wouldn't want too many of the same types of character turning up, otherwise stories would get a little boring later on.

If you have a solid idea of who your character would be [color=silver](a cop, a terrorist, a Corp executive or a freelance medic, for instance)[/color], but haven't worked out all the details for them [color=silver](contacts, favoured tactics, district of residence, or favourite recreational narcotic)[/color] by posting up a CS you can let everyone else get an idea what's already being worked on, so they can explore other options instead [color=silver](robot stripper, unemployed astrological engineer, mechanic specialising in antique iPods, or coffee machine.)[/color]

I really hope we get that last one, it could be a great help on long nights. :hehe
