Striking from behind proved to be quite the effective strategy as the wild [i]Wynaut[/i] may as well have used [i][u][b]Quick Attack[/b][/u][/i] for how fast it went past Rin.

They figured the wild pokémon was a Water Type by virtue of the fact that it was blue, but perhaps not? It certainly hadn't reacted like it was Resistant to [u][b][i]Water Gun[/i][/b][/u].
