[@Sigurd] is right. The story takes place somewhere between 870 and 1064. I purposely left it unstated what the exact year is. It doesn't follow the real timeline in history at all except for the basic era of the viking. I can tell you they are earlier in the story as the first set of kings are in play at the moment.
