Name
Theodore ’Ted’ Kord
Alias
The Scarlet Scarab
Age
31
Personality
Optimistic, calculating, light-hearted, Jolly, Determined
Archetype
Gadgeteer
Powers
Peak-ish Human Condition: Ted spends a decent amount of his time training his body to be capable of standing on his own in a word of alien gods and jacked up hoodlums. He’s trained in quite a few martial arts forms but is by no means a master of any and would be easily taken down by someone more skilled than him. Likely his greatest attribute however is his mind. With an IQ of 192 Ted is able to think through many situations rather than needing to resort to pure brute force (of which he possesses very little). Scarlet Scarab Armour: With a little ‘gift’ from outer-space, Ted has been able create his set of terrestrial-alien armour complete with multiple configurations and a sonic based gun. The actually armoured parts of the suit are capable of taking a decent amount of damage (a concave piece could be runner with a semi and be completely undamaged) while the thinner joint parts of the armour provide moderate kinetic defence but nearly no defence against energy attacks. The suit also has three main configurations for various situations. His Deep Sea mode really bulks up the suit’s armour and gives Ted a CO2 scrubber capable of keeping him breathing for up to two days though this configuration impedes Ted’s movement. Ted’s flight mode allows Ted to sacrifice his more heavy duty armour for a pair of wings that let him take flight and maneuver better than if he was on the ground. The final configuration is his standard; nothing too bulky but nothing too weak either. The BB gun: SS’s BB gun is capable of firing varying strengths of sonic attacks with the strongest being able to knock a rhino off it’s feet. It also has a criminally underused grappling hook function that Ted hasn’t used since he developed the wings in his suit.
Weaknesses
Human: Ted’s humanity is humbling to him in a time where he’s constantly surrounded by godly extraterrestrials and superhumans but, naturally, his mundane physicality is his greatest weakness. Ted can be stabbed, shot, blown up and killed in a plethora of other ways. Phantom Pain: Ted’s armour comes from a machine that he doesn’t entirely understand so every once in a while he’ll have an unexplainable malfunction with his armour. This can be in the form of deafening screaming, random growths from the armour or even just a full blown shut down.
Appearance
Will add later
Character Evolution
I'd like for Ted to face off against the Reach at some point and have a change in costume; maybe taking up the moniker of Blue Beetle again or maybe finding out the scarab is sentient and bond with it properly.
Altered History
-Rather than Blue Beetle Ted is now the Scarlet Scarab. -Ted's tech is a mix of alien tech with some human ingenuity.
Recommended Background Leaguer
Huntress
BRIEF Bio
Ted Kord was raised in luxury due to his parents owning the highly successful cooperation know as Kord Industries. Living in such an environment inevitably spoiled Ted and resulted in a child who believed they were a cut above the common rabble but this lifestyle also allowed Ted to put a great focus on his studies and become a child prodigy. This mentality didn’t help Ted make any real friends but the boy suffered a real shock when his parent’s company was bought out by Wayne Enterprises during a low period for the company. Ted’s ‘friends’ all left him and his family was forced to drastically change their lifestyle to fit their new money situation. Luckily Ted’s parents made peace with the situation quickly and managed to keep the family fed, warm and dry. Ted wasn’t as easy to adapt. The now eleven year old boy took the change horribly and blamed his parents for their new accommodations and finical situation. This mentality slowly eroded away as Ted grew older and came to realize just how much his parents needed to do just to keep their family living somewhat comfortably and put him through university. After university, Ted made a name for himself in the business world via starting multiple companies and selling them off for huge pay outs which allowed him to once again live in luxury. Eventually he managed to buy back his parent’s company from Wayne Enterprises after a decent amount of haggling and paying more than the corporation was worth. The first major project headed by the company under Ted’s leadership was the development of the software to be used in the Justice League’s base of operations. The business owner hadn’t followed the career of the heroes very closely but he knew about the superhumans that inhabited his world but seeing them up close sparked something within Ted. These heroes put their lives on the line so that people like him could continue their lives without needing to worry about some intergalactic starfish or something destroying the planet. Ted wanted the self fulfillment that came with such an occupation. He thought “I want to be one of those guys” and began using the resources of his company to cobble together gadgets and a suit so that he could become a protector of the planet. Ted's heroic career changed very early on when he came into possession of a Red Beetle like machine, salvaged from an alien crash. He kept the discovery seceret from everyone he could and worked in secret, studying the machine. Eventually he learned that pieces chipped off could be nutured and 'grown' when charged with enough energy. Ted used this tech to construct his new Scarlet Scarab armour.
Notes
-Ted used to go by the alias 'Blue Beetle' very early on in his career but got a cease and desist order from another hero who had been using the name since the 80s.
Sample Post

Tick, tick, tick Ted litsened to the old grandfather clock tick away as he worked on fixing his armour in his summer home located in the forests outside of Metroplis. He sat at an old wooden dining room table on a antique chair as he poked and proded at the cracked shoulder piece with what could only be described as a futuristic soddering iron that sparked when it got close to the crimson material. Right before Ted's eyes the crack began to mend itself with a soft red glow eminating from the afflicted area. It still made the inventor smile seeing this wonder metal fix itself with nothing more than a few prods of electricity. Tick, tick, tick After the mending was complete, Ted straightened out his hunched form and looked at his handy work from afar. With just over half a decade under his belt, Ted was still proud of the suit that he managed to grow from extra terrestrial seeds. The smile faded from his face as he looked over at his grandfather clock, staring intently at if for a moment before turning back to his armour. Tick, tick ti- Suddenly the world warped around Ted and the hero found himself sitting in his quarters of the Metro Tower. Well sitting wasn't the right word. Ted HAD been sitting but now there was nothing below him and he promptly fell to the ground on his arse. Ted let out a surprised gasp but quickly got to his feet and popped his spare ear-piece into his ear of which he kept on a table in his sparse looking room. "Scarlet Scarab to watch tower come on in good buddy." Ted asked as he walked over to a dresser in his room to take out his spare costume. Ted litsened intently for a response as he put on the less technical but still alien back-up suit. The suit's material looked like the darker parts of his main suit coupled with his beetle logo and a functional helemt. After no response was recived Ted left the confines of his room, making sure to pick up his BB gun and look down the hall before proceeding. All that he could see was the shroud of darkness where the lights should be illuminating. The crimson clad hero walked tentatively down the hall and towards the stair well to check on the generator. "Deja vu." Ted said to himself as he looked down the dark stairwell and remembering his last run in a pitch black Metro Tower. Before he could make his way down the stairs though, a loud crash was heard from up above, followed by bright blasts of golden light. With a clear point of interest, Ted dashed up the stairs to figure out just what was going on. As Ted got to the broken and battered doorway, he looked through and saw Booster Gold get thrown past by a massive shadowy hand. Originally Ted presumed it to be Shadow Theif trying to exact his revenge on the tower while most of the team was out but upon seeing the gray caped, dark purple figure figure, Ted presumed he was wrong. Before the mysterious figure had another chance to pummel Gold, Ted fired his BB gun and drew the attention of the shadow slinging villian. Seeming mostly unaffected by the first blast, Ted cranked the power but not before being picked up by an etheral and shadowy hand. With his arms pinned to his sides, Ted could only watch as the man who shared a complection with obsidian summoned a massive shadowy sword. As the blade swung, a golden blast dissipated the darkness holding Ted and allowed him to just miss the certain death of getting his head cleaved off. In a streak of light Booster blasted through the man who dissapeared into the shadows of the tower. Booster looked around for the man only to be bashed in the back of the head by a massive club construct, disorientating the time traversing hero. The purple clad villain sauntered up to Gold, shadowy pike in hand, and raised it up with the intent of ending the hero's career. Before the final blow was struck, Ted used his BB gun to blast open a hole in the wall and let in the naturally sunlight of the outside. The villian's constructs faded and he began to run for the shadows once more only to get grabbed and knocked out by a recovered Booster Gold. The Scarlet Scarab looked down at the beaten villian then turned his attention to Booster. A peculiar note Ted took was Booster's appearance. He looked more mature and a little older since the last time they saw each other. His suit too seemed a little less lustrious. "So who's the new guy? Haven't heard of anyone looking like this shmuck before." Ted asked Booster. "A guy who's not supposed to be here yet." Booster said as he tapped a few buttons on his glove as a large glass sphere appeared to which booster dragged the body towards. Before Ted could ask what he meant by that, the gold clad hero was gone without a trace. In the wake of the fight, Ted looked around and wondered three things; If Booster was fighting the shadow guy, who teletported him there? Where'd Gold take that guy? And finally he wondered how he was going to explain the whole situation to the rest of the League.
