In the real world, some preppers are a little more intense than others, and those are the post-apocalyptic types, with bunkers buried 30 feet under the ground filled with enough preserved food rations to last one hundred years. Other preppers are just former boy scouts that believe in being prepared for the worst, with a few weapons to stave off potential looters in case of a riot and some rations to help survive a period of time without running water or electricity. Most fall into something of a middle ground. My group isn't an apocalypse group, but just one guy who believes in being prepared for a disaster and wants to try to keep his family alive in case something terrible happens. But as [@irredeemable] noted in the intro, there's just been an overwhelming "feeling" that something terrible is coming, which I used as an excuse for my character to take a few more drastic measures in the last few weeks.
