Matija and Koren
In collaboration with: [@Rultaos]
After they got the plant creature back on the Medbay, Matija walks back in the range to see the Juz’ politely waiting for her as he gently scooped something out of his bag that she never knew was one. “What’s that?” the Mecorian asked with a relatively cooler head. Koren looked up to her in response as the creature crept up his hand. “It’s Unaysah,” he says calmly, before looking back to the spider stretching to wake itself up. “Oh. She’s perdy. And bigger,” Matija said casually as she walked towards closer towards him to look at the arachnid. “Ya got around the ship, right? Where ’re ya gonna sleep?” she asked him as he stood and Unaysah groggily climbed on to his shoulder. “Anywhere will do. Preferably with you. But my things in the cargo bay.” Matija hummed to it and nodded. “Aight. Let’s get yer things, then. We can talk in private there.” Koren sighed as he led Matija out of the gym so they could take his things and settle down. After they had stowed his personals in Matija, and in extension, now also Koren’s room, they ended up talking. Matija had a few words with him. Most were stern, some were advice. When Koren had gotten the information that he needed from her, he stripped his armor as Matija waited outside. “I’m done,” he says softly as he came out with some khaki shorts and a blue-grey shirt. Unaysah followed after him as she scampered happily around the walls and ceiling. “What’re ya two planning to do now?” Matija asked the two as she eyed the happy spider that looked back down at her from the ceiling. “I’m going to walk around the ship, see what I need to do when the time comes,” he responded, to which Matija nodded to. “Aight, then. I’ll be in the gym helping Benny when ya need me.”
The next day, Matija was woke up when Koren came in their room already washed and ready for the sparring that she promised him. “Huh? What?” she said groggily as the smell of synthetic flowers invaded her nostrils as well as the sudden humidity of the room. “Good morning,” Koren greets her as he continued towel drying his hair before giving up when it was no longer dripping and letting it hang loose. Unaysah drops down from the ceiling towards Koren’s shoulder, also soggy but no worse for wear. “You’re up early,” Matija said with a yawn as she starts looking around for clothes to change into. “Or did ya just have trouble sleeping?” she added as she shot a look at them. The Juz’ looked away in response as he pulls out a small towel from his pack to dry Unaysah as well as something to use for later. The Mecorian eventually got herself ready for their daily sparring and exercise. She told Koren to go to the gym to check if it’s free and to get their water bottles refilled when he passes by the galley. The Juz’ nodded and Matija left to drag the tuckered out explosives expert from his tiny hovel. “Be~n..?” she says as she gently rapped on his door. When the Scot wouldn’t answer the door despite the incessant knocking, rapping, she starts picking the lock on his door before turning in the lights and sitting by the edge of his bed. “Be~n…” she coos softly while poking his face. “Wake up, Benny boy. We got some practicin’ afoot.” The Scotsman eventually stirred from their slumber and weakly waved off the interruption of their sleep with a mumbled "Five minutes..." before Matija took more drastic measures to get them up. Though she did ring true to his request for 5 more minutes, timing it to the second, she then starts rocking him, gently at first, cooing his name and telling him to get up before she starts pulling off his pillows and covers from him. “Benjamin! It’s time to get up!” It did not take long after for them to be roused from their sleep as they were then almost dragged by the Mecorian to the gym, grumbling almost the whole way. By the time they get there, Koren was leaning forward one of their makeshift firing range’s tables and playing with Unaysah with his fingers. When he hears them near, he looks towards them and straightened himself to greet. “Hello,” he says blankly as he looks at Matija who walked towards the open area of the shooting range to place down the rubber matting that she stored to the sides yesterday, before looking at Benny and reaching out his hand for a shake. “I’m Koren. I was here when you were loading in the insugels.” Benny took the Juz’ hand and shook it as he nodded at him. "Right, the blue fella. Call me Benny or Boomer. Either wor- WHAT IN THE DEVIL'S BAHOOKY IS THAT?!" he exclaimed as Unaysah emerged from behind Koren on the table, making the Juz’ quickly look behind him. He lets go of the human’s hand and flattened his hand by the arachnid, to which she happily climbed onto. “She is my altaw'am alruwh,” he says with a matter-of-fact tone as he carried her in front of Benny. “Her name is Unaysah.” The spider’s mandibles moved as she lets out a chitter. “She says that it’s nice to meet you, Mister Boomer,” says Koren, as if able to understand what the critter’s chittering meant. Unaysah on the other hand looks back at Benny, eyes glimmering at the sight of him. Benny eyed Unaysah suspiciously but nodded nonetheless. "Err...right. jus'... Dinnae let... Unaysah get close ta' me" he said warily before turning back to Matija. "So, are we still trainin' or are we jus gaunnie sit here speakin' how do ya do's?" Matija looked back to them, still putting on the 5x5 mat setup. “Well if y’all could just…” She says, gesturing at the rest of the mat with exasperated sarcasm. Koren was quick to help, placing down Unaysah back to the table before jogging in to give Matija a hand, hastening the process before the Mecorian sat down to stretch while the Juz’ placed down the last few pieces. When they were done, Matija opted to start training with Benny, before going with Koren, and then pitting the two men together before they took a break and tried again for three more tries. While Matija was a weaker fighter in comparison to Koren and Benny, she still had the technique and stamina to deal with prolonged fighting. Koren always hits fast and hard, even without the aid of his psionics. But he gradually became weaker and more sluggish as their spars went on due to his weaker body. Lastly, Benny was the least experienced of them but his over-all endurance kept him at near-peak game, earning him wins nearing the ends of their practices. By the end of their little exercise, everyone was eager to rest. “We should do this more often,” Matija says after taking a huge gulp of water. Koren simply panted and shook his head before raising it up and placing a towel on top of it. "I remember agreein' ta' be a punching bag fer you. But I dinnae remember agreein' ta' be a dummy fer another one" Benny said as he nursed a couple bruises he got from both of his companions. The Mecorian just laughed at him, lying on her back on the mat. “You could’ve said no when I told you to fight ‘im,” she chuckles weakly as she lets herself feel the blows that would definitely show as patches of blues and violets on her body later. "Riiiight... Like that was a real option..." Benny replied sarcastically as he leaned back onto the table from his chair as he groaned out some of the pains from their match. Matija chuckles to his statement before saying “Good boy,” then attempting to stand quickly before momentarily blacking out in the process. As her limbs swayed about unsteadily from standing up to ofast, Benny would notice the awkward movement and get up with a groan as he extends out Skelly to try and stabilize her. "Haud on, Skelly's got got ye" He said as he slipped Skelly behind her so she could put her own arm over his shoulders for support. With Benny helping her from falling flat on the mat, Matija looks at him in confusion and stars in her eyes as she slowly regained her vision. “Shouldn’t have done that,” she says sheepishly as she felt blood rush to her face before while trying to stand again. All the while avoiding Benny’s gaze. “W-we should probably fix the place up and go, now…” the Mecorian suggested as she rubs her face with a towel.
After another fruitful session, the trio eventually went off to clean themselves. By which it meant dragging the sweaty Scotsman towards the bathroom so he would at least seem presentable in front of others when they were called to the war room. There, they talked something about a band of raiders called Skaldum and so on and so forth. But this Taleste chick was apparently better than her for reconnaissance. She scoffs at the thought and shot a glare at the thief before trying to focus back on the mission briefing. Thankfully, they’re not really expected to do much on the surface other than expect a potential FUBAR if the raiders ever found them, or the labs. With nothing else to talk about, she immediately stood up and left the room so she could simmer down outside the war room. This earned the surprised and confused looks of some of her colleagues in the room but she didn’t really care for it regardless. As Koren passed by, she grabs him by the arm and the Juz’ stops on the command. “Take ma guns and ammo from the room,” she says. “I’ll do some firin’ practice later. Wait for me in the gym.” The alien nodded to it and left when she lets him go. After Taleste left, she too would head in the room to confront their supposed leader. “So, ain’t good enough for ya?” she says with venomous sweetness when she saunters in with a toothy smile that showed off the sharpness of her teeth, and rage in her eyes. “Cute lil Taily girl better than me? Tell me, Stryker. What made her better than me?” She gets near him, too near for comfort as she felt herself breathe in the rancid air of the man that had fallen down from her view. A moment was all it took for her smile to falter, urging her to pull it back up as she took an extra moment to stare in his eyes. “Actually, you know what? Whatever, right? Give others a chance,” she says as she takes a step back to give the man his space back. “I hope yer kitten is as good as you think she is, Stryker,” she said in that still sweet voice. “It would be a shame if one poor choice ended up with all of us dyin’.” With that, she left the room with a hollow chuckle on her throat. Matija headed straight to the gym to use their small firing range inside. Koren handed the Mecorian her earplugs, pistols, magazines, pack of ammunitions, and a marker. She then tells the young Juz’ to head to their room and onto the Armory so they could get a fresh batch of ammunition enough for the apocalypse and get their armors checked before they had to deploy. “Get yourself a gun too and practice with it. You won’t know when you’ll need it.” When the blue alien left, Matija asked the other range users to stop, she then jogged towards the insugel’s surface and doodled rough outlines of two people and multiple other targets before her marker ran out of ink, making her growl at it in frustration as she tried her best not to throw it on a random direction, or a random someone. When she’s done, she put in the earplugs and announced “FIRING!” to everyone to make sure that she won’t accidentally hit an idiot trying to walk in front of her. Despite not being able to use a gun for a while, the kick of her pistols on her arms felt wonderful to her. The comforting weapon added with the rage fueling her systems made her focus so well that she ended up hitting her targets with near deadly precision despite the first few shots that she required to get a feel for her guns again. The rest of her time was spent with her slowly filling their insugel on multiple places with enough lead to make a small statue out of. When she was somewhat satisfied, she placed the hot firearms down onto the table so it could cool and be taken in to Grayson later for additional check-ups in order to assure minimal issues when they land planetside.
