Initially I thought the power would be a fun little joke to offset the likely more serious and cool powers but honestly I think the powers have the potential to be cool too. And also fabulous. Which is a big thing for me. Also I'm stalling but here's my character submitted for approval. It starts at the top with her hair; though she hates to say it she had an undercut with sideswept bangs long before undercuts were some kind of trend. Naturally black, Sage took to coloring her hair a rather loud red until it started becoming a bit too much work to maintain consistently. Now her hair, without the aid of coloring, has a bit of a maroon twinge to it. Her face deals in her biracial ethnicity, with her mother's eyes and her father's nose; when she isn't experimenting with eccentric contact colors her eyes are a muddy, chocolate brown. Sage is taller than average, by last measurement she was a flat six foot one. It's no big secret to anyone that Sage leans in heavily to the whole androgynous angle in nearly every aspect from her hair to her attire and even to her voice which has a coarse, husky edge to it, the kind of voice one might expect from a lifetime of smoking - which Sage insists she doesn't touch. Baggy, boyish clothing make up the norm of her day-to-day outfits though she prefers to think of it as just simply clothing. Sage will just as often be found in clothes that lean towards the 'masculine', slacks, long sleeved jackets, she showed up to memorial services in a suit, that sort of thing. Her build is rather slender and she doesn't make efforts to highlight her figure, though beneath the articles of clothing is someone that isn't shying away from their feminine side, just the curves.

[sub]
[sup][sub]-[/sub][/sup]✶ IN DEPTH ✶
[/sub]

[sub][sub]
personality
[/sub][/sub] Someone overly confident in their own skin from the way she walks about with that swagger and that look that says more than words ever could. A shark in an ocean of guppies who won't hesitate to strike when opportunity arises and when her voice needs to be heard. Surely enviable to the right sort, desirable from a different, the dictionary definition of one who has no time for other's opinions and has long since run out of anything resembling a fuck to give. Sage doesn't make a lot of time for people who clearly don't have the time to spend with her. This has led to having something of a bad reputation by virtue of being blunt and rarely hanging out with others. She isn't anti-social, she just prefers not to have to wade through a pool of shit to get to know someone. If she's true to herself, why can't others be? Though if she was as true to herself as she claims, why would she also hide from her name? An emotional wreck crippled by insecurities and stuck in a spiral that only ever sinks further and further downwards. Unable to hold onto connections, friends, and a settling realization that her voice will never be heard in the world. Misery loves company and surrounding herself with people just as miserable as her is how she can boost herself up, make herself look better than she feels she truly is. And the only one who knows this is herself, because her slavish devotion to her own image has taken up so much of her identity that any admission that she's headed for a self destructive path would be akin to social suicide. With her preferred company all but dying out in light of recent events, she's desperate for something to ground herself and for someone or something that can make her understand that she wasn't better off being one of the victims.
[sub][sub]
superpower
[/sub][/sub]
RAINBOW Manipulation Sage feels that she hit the lower end of the 'super power' tier given that being able to create a rainbow between her palms isn't exactly flight or strength or literally anything else. But there is more to it than just being able to make the ultimate party trick of having a rainbow on call, arcing between her palms. She can make the rainbow into a physical, solid state which in a practical sense means that, given a deeper understanding the rainbows she creates could be used to make tools or items - like a weapon of rainbow light. While it's true that her powers are of the rainbow, it's more accurate to say that her powers are light based in nature. Between solidifying the rainbow into hard light and the potential of having rainbow colored beams of light, there's more to her power set than she realizes. At the moment, however, all she really thinks she can do is make a rainbow appear between her palms, which is hardly cause for celebration. Being exposed to so much light at such close proximity means that if she shows off for too long it can damage her eye sight, possibly beyond repair. She draws her power from the colors around her, she can't just internally make a rainbow - and if there are none of the colors that make up a rainbow then her color manipulation does little to nothing. Only colors in the rainbow can be manipulated by her, no off shoots or blends. ROYGBIV only.
[sub][sub]
backstory
[/sub][/sub]
Sage, birth name of Brandi, was born on the west coast to a mother of Asian descent and a father who was a college professor up until the point he was outed as having numerous affairs with his students in exchange for boosting their grade. Naturally this didn't sit well with Brandi's mother, who took her young daughter and moved across country to live with her mother, Sage. Brandi's middle name and the name she prefers to be known as is the name of her grandmother, who was around just long enough to see Brandi enter middle school. Brandi was what people would call a 'tomboy' but Brandi simply saw as 'playing with friends'; Brandi had a knack for worming her way out of trouble, be it by blaming accidents on one of her boy friends or faking tears to gain the sympathy card, it was at such a young age that Brandi realized people will believe what they want to believe. That people rarely see beyond the surface. It didn't matter if there was a broken vase and she was holding the bat, if she cried and said David Weber from next door made her do it, then David Weber from next door was getting a spanking while Brandi was getting an extra scoop of ice cream for dessert. Brandi didn't find a hobby nor a circle of friends as she entered Midwood. The extracurricular courses and clubs offered there were in greater number compared to her middle school which was more like a holding pen for unruly children that sometimes came with math tests and even then she didn't find a place where she fit in. She didn't look like many of her classmates, she didn't really take the time to know them or want to, and her only interest was drawing. When she was younger she doodled but found that her mother, turning to a bit of drinking following the scandal that was her messy divorce, didn't express any interest in Brandi's art. It fell to Sage, Brandi's grandmother, to offer the positive reinforcement by putting Brandi's drawings on the fridge. When Brandi tried taking art, her teacher called her work 'unique' which was a teacher's way of being negative but positively. Brandi figured she'd find her place over the four years but all she had to show for it was a small handful of people who hung out with her while otherwise going unnoticed for anything other than her 'unique' appearance. Brandi isn't quite sure what she wants out of life and all she has to show for it so far is her identity, which amounts to little in the real world. After the virus she entered into a bit of a depression. The people she liked hanging out with were, tragically, victims of the outbreak. She felt the same way about their death as she did when her grandmother passed away back when Brandi was in middle school. Confused. Angry. Aloof. While Brandi had her sobering mother for support after her grandmother's death, she doesn't have any emotional support following the virus. All she has is what she perceives as a useless 'ability' and the belief that she was better off going with the four hundred who lost their lives. At least then she wouldn't have to face reality.
