ed: also bear in mind that wrought iron isn't actually superior to bronze, especially when bronze technology is highly refined, and iron is just starting out. Cast iron is even worse. Iron just happens to be a) easier to find as ore and b) harder to get from ore.

ed ed, fug u: also also bear in mind that steel cannot replace wrought iron. It takes far too long to produce, and in the Marquisate case, can only be produced in a specific season to boot. Wrought iron will still be the material of choice for Marquisan tools, structures, ships, mechanisms and whatnot, and bronze won't be phased out either. Steel will be used for specific applications where the extra strength is actually necessary to produce an item at all, such as the longsword and sabre.
