She found a specific gap and emptied it of Other life completely, then processed it into something entirely new, a vacuous pocket dimension completely separate from the total Gap. In the process of Osveril's birth, she destroyed it again.

Yep! This should explain everything.

It does remind me that I never really explained how the blast furnace developed out of the bloomery in my post, though it is mentioned that Tauga considers the monsoon furnace a form of bloomery anyway, so they probably didn't have the technology at all until the metal bender introduced it. They're very similar constructions, but I'll add a Heartworm freepoint to smooth things over anyway and keep y'all happy.
