It was only the empath's fragile state was giving them alittle freedom. She needed to keep her father and the others as far from them as possible. That would only happen as long as they thought it was to their benefit to do so. Which meant not fixing the shield too much. 

Roxy didn't like that part. She didn't like Jess having a link to her emotion. She preferred that the other woman not know anything. She didn't want Jess in her dark world. It was better if the girl knew as little as possible. She didn't want to contaminated the empath. Jess had already been through enough she didn't need to deal with more. She was determined to keep the other woman safe.
