Think all the surgeons are gonna be running around unchecked? Think again. Regardless of how she views others under her direct care - none can say she doesn't care. Eugene holds herself to higher standards than the other surgeons of the department and in turn expects her staff to aspire to meet said standards, which has the unfortunate benefit of giving Eugene a reputation for being something of a stick in the mud given her distaste for things she considers to be 'frivolous' such as her views on the 'booty on-call room'. Everything aside, however, and it's easy to see why Eugene is perfectly suited for the position she's been given. She runs a tight ship but knows she can't just hold the leash tight while at the same time making sure mistakes are noted and corrected. She has a 'One Strike' policy when it comes to major infractions. Eugene is a hard boss to like on the job, but the surgical ward is better for it, and someone has to shoulder the burden that comes with the egos and vibrant personalities that scrub in.

Actual Personality: Eugene feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders damn near every day, and that's before adding to the fact that lives are literally in the hands of her and her surgeons. In truth, she's often jealous of her peers - and though she is the Chief of Surgery she does see the doctors and nurses of the staff as her peers (even interns, though she's not above giving them a bit of a hard time...traditions and all) - when said peers seem to be managing the hectic and stressful realities of the job with a seemingly normal social and romantic life. While not 'married to the job' she's well aware that the majority of her social interactions comes with dealing with patients who think they know better than the staff or from doctors trying to convince her to let them scrub in or sit in on surgeries or in dealing with the Board or God forbid legal and that takes its toll. While it's true she has a List of her opinions about the surgeons, she also respects them all individually. They've earned at least that much just by wearing and doing the scrubs proud. Eugene isn't nearly as stern and stoic as she is when dealing with the pressures of the job, but she would challenge anyone to be in her shoes and not go down the same path. Barring any blatant malpractice, Eugene will stick her neck out for her surgeons, and she's not a bad person to have in your corner for that.

History: The only thing that matters with Eugene's history is her credentials, and that's all she typically talks about. She was born overseas, in Busan, but her family relocated to the States when her father's job at an automobile manufacturer needed an experienced hand to manage a new branch in America. Eugene, born Yunjin, didn't always want to be in the medical profession, there was a time where she figured working on cars like her dad would be fine, but the best bit of advice her parents gave her was not feeling the need to simply follow in their footsteps. In high school Yunjin thought she might like to be a cop after the school had a D.A.R.E. assembly. She still isn't sure why she opted to enter the medical program at the Pritzker School at her university but it was the right choice. She did her internship and residency at Chicago Medical Center and she would have been happy to continue on at that hospital - but she heard about Jack Marshall and the idea of a competing hospital sounded promising - and put in to transfer to Caduceus Mercy where she has been for twelve years. She was chosen to be the new Chief of Surgery when the previous one stepped down; it was a bit of a hot gossip issue given that she was still seen as a bit inexperienced or young despite getting the promotion at forty, but she's proven to be a fine choice. Anything else about Eugene she keeps mostly to herself. Except why she goes by Eugene, and that's because one of her earliest patients had difficulty saying 'Yunjin' and kept calling her 'Eugene'. Some of her peers thought it was funny and used it to poke fun. When the patient passed away, one of Yunjin's more formative patients in her career, she took to calling herself Eugene. She quite likes it.

"In everybody’s life there’s a point of no return. Graduated with top honors. Survived her internship and residency. Made Chief of Surgery just shy of forty. She's been published, technically, and she was in an article that was read by people who care enough to read articles about new hirings at a new hospital. One thing she hasn't done, which might well be the last thing on her list of goals, is a relationship. Marriage. For all her knowledge of medicine she is still, at post-40, ignorant on the finer points of dating and the like. She's never been married and her longest relationship was about a month. It's not at the front of her list of priorities, though. She'd like to have Caduceus Memorial's reputation be number one but that's more a point of pride. She was sought out, after all, it's the least she could do to give back to the place that gave her a career even through the down times.
Fears

Malpractice lawsuits for her or her staff
Heights. There is something known as The List which is Eugene's personal rankings and opinions of the surgeons; the List is a known thing but only Eugene presently knows where in her office it is - though many interns have been tricked into trying to find it. She has a stuffed animal she sleeps with and once made the mistake of bringing it to the on-call room. There was a picture taken. That was not a fun week.
[@Bee][@Dirty Pretty Lies]
