Formerly known as Eridild Stronghold, Citadel by the Sea, this ancient fortress houses what may well be the last free civilization on the continent of Aexamar. In the past year, the Xill Scourge has swept through the continent indiscriminately killing and enslaving every manner of humanoid they've encountered. The Scourge is a seemingly endless army of Xill, with the ability to blink entire battalions from the ethereal plane to the material plane, right in the center of a city's fortifications. The Final Bastion, for reasons lost to time, was built with stones imbued with an Arcane Lock enchantment, preventing extraplanar travel to and from the city. This is how civilization has managed to fend off annihilation, but with the armies amassing outside of the gates, time is running out. A fleet of galleons has been stocked and prepared for travel, your peoples' last ditch plan is to sail east into the unknown. The hour to put this plan into action has come, as the battering ram splinters the wood of your gates and the catapults lay waste to your walls. It has fallen upon your shoulders to lead the exodus. With any luck, you'll be able to start anew and rebuild civilization.
[sup]But who are you?[/sup]
Who are you to lead these terrified people? Well, heroes of course. By way of some great display, practical experience, or sheer luck you have made names for yourselves amongst the survivors. Over the past year you have not only developed a relationship with the people, but with one another.
[sup]And you're not alone[/sup]
There is a cast of characters at work in the Last Bastion, the following is a brief outline of important figures you've likely interacted with over the past months: Gammar (he/him, Lawful Good) is a dwarven warrior who both leads the affairs of the dwarven quarter and commands the dwarven militia which, despite the drastic population differences, is equal in number to the human militia. He walks with a peg leg and worships Iomedae. Llenasae (she/her, Neutral Good) is an inexperienced elven wizard who has nonetheless established herself as one of the council in charge of elven affairs. She worships Calistria, and comes off as quite paranoid. Ayrie (she/her, Neutral Good) is an elven cleric who is also on the council. Like Llenasae, she worships Calistria, and has made the preservation of knowledge one of her top priorities. Felix (he/him, Lawful Good) is a human priest of Torag, and one of the most highly regarded individuals among the majority human population. He is gravely serious, and is always seen carrying his scriptures under his arm. The Compelling Savages (Chaotic Good) is a horizontal organization of individuals who claim to represent the interests of the smallest populations of remaining survivors. They have unionized early in fear of enslavement, sacrifice, or some other way of humans and the like taking advantage of them. The people they represent include Halflings, Gnomes, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Tieflings, Orcs, and Copper Kobolds. Trin (ey/em, Chaotic Good) is a half-elven rogue, and the most outspoken of the Compelling Savages. While ey do not lead the group, ey serve as its mouthpiece. Ey come from wealth, but have yellow teeth. There are other various organizations, gangs, and esteemed individuals, but these are the ones that you're most likely to have come into contact with so far.
[sup]Creating your character[/sup]
On top of a reasonably fleshed out background and personality description, I would like you to describe how you have come to get along with your fellow party members over the past months, and who you have encountered or gotten to know from the cast above, and how you feel about them. If you would like to add relevant NPCs to the story, you may do so pending GM approval. Getting down to the mechanics of your character, stats are 20 point buy, hp alternates between full and half of your hit die at every other level plus CON mod (so if your hit die is d8 and your constitution is 12(+1), your character's hp progression will be 9(8+1), 14(8+1+4+1), 23(8+1+4+1+8+1) and so on as you level. Starting wealth is 10,500 gp each, I advise spending most of that now as economics are gonna get wonky. Any questions?
