We did leave some room for variety in this case. As stated in the discord previously it is the Grand Council that decides what villages may be reaped from. While the Drakkan do enjoy going and just snatching, as long as what they are provided with is sufficient, they do not care how they receive them. This means if a town or village has a tradition of choosing the brides before the Reapers come to collect, then that may be used as part of the backstory.

You are correct, however, that once the Reaper comes, they are dragged away and don't get to come back (at least not normally). Even when they die, they are usually discarded somewhere in Drakka.
