After moving away from the city to a small town in the countryside, with his wife and young child, he lived a rather boring life. He responded to medical emergencies more so than anything else. A small town with a lack of fires to fight, made Destiny feel that his title of hero was at stake. Feeling the flame of fire in his heart and the need to become a hero once again, he set his own house on fire with his family still inside. He rushed to their aid but inadvertently lost control of the situation by not having any of the equipment he required to be able to extinguish the ever growing fire. Separated from his family by a wall of fire, he received severe burns on his hands and face. Before losing consciousness, he could hear his wife and child scream as the fire consumed them just as he was pulled out from the team of responding firefighters. When he awoken, he found himself handcuffed to a hospital bed and a police officer monitoring him closely. A detective questioned him and told him the fire inspectors found evidence linking him to setting his house on fire and he was being charged for Arsony and Second Degree Murder. Through a long hospital stay, Destiny studied his surroundings and the police officers that patrolled the halls. He waited until the officer in the room with him fell asleep where he used his still healing skin on his hand to pull his hand free causing him severe pain. He used the telephone cord to strangle and kill the sleeping officer and made his escape out of a window. He has been on the run ever since and being sought out in the news and other local channels on the radio and television. "There is no one else," a bound and bloodied man gasped, "only me." "You have a child. Eric. I know where he is and there is nothing you can do to stop me." "Bastard," the man yelled trying to stand. He fell flat on his back as a boot crushed his chest. He groaned, choking for air." "I'll ask you again... Where are the others?" "Damn you to hell," the man sobbed, "Piemonte, Askedall, and Sale..." His words were cut short as a thunderous roar erupted from inside the dilapidated hovel. The mans head and most of his chest burst into gore as the interrogator shot him with a blunderbuss. A small light flickered once then twice before becoming a steady glow. The interrogators eyes glowed behind the flicker before the light dropped to the floor. It sparked a consuming flame that quickly rushed to the body of the deceased man. Within seconds the hovel was a roaring fire and just outside stood a lone hunter. In his hand he clutched four large teeth which he set into a small brown sac attached to his belt. The cloud cover overhead darkened most of the outer landscape. The hunter left his scene of destruction and within seconds of leaving the fire he was gone in the darkness. -Several Weeks Later- The rickety old oak wagon crossed into the town of Salem. The Mayor along with several police officers awaited the arrival at the Inn. The coachman pulled the brake and called for his horses to stop. The wagon doors opened and a known hunter stepped out. "We don't need you here," the Mayor said before the hunter set foot on the ground, "our town is safe and free of your mythical nonsense." The hunter looked at the Mayor and looked down both sides of the street, "then you wouldn't have a problem of allowing me to take a look around." "I do have a problem with that. You hunters bring nothing but worry and discord," the Mayor retorted. "It's people like you who get people killed. You are blind and think there is nothing wrong when I can promise you... that there is something wrong." "Whatever you can do, my officers can do better." "Oh," the hunter said shockingly, "I didn't know your officers have killed vampires, werewolves, zombies, griffons, and the minions of the devil. So which one of you has killed a vampire that can move faster than you can think? Or killed a werewolf that can kill fifteen people with one swipe. Hides that can deflect most modern weaponry? You think a cannon will kill it? It will only stall it for a second. Not to mention that their bites are incredibly infectious and it only takes one of them to infect a hundred people. But, you are right. You don't need me. I'll be going then. Coachmen..." "No no," the Mayor coughed slightly hiding his stench of fear, "if you think there is a monster here. Feel free to look around. I... uh... even got you the best room in the Inn." "Oh, I'm sorry. I probably misheard you about you being able to control your town. Have my things taken up to the room. The key delivered to me when it's ready." "Absolutely sir," the Mayor said grabbing a nearby officer whispering to him, "get that room ready and have someone come get his things." "If anything is missing," the hunter said looking at a large suitcase, "we will have problems." "Oh no...nonono, we value your privacy, sir... uh," the Mayor hinted. "Malthael." "Right, right," the Mayor continued, "I'll have someone come deliver the key to you Sir Malthael." Malthael walked a few steps away from the wagon and past the police officers and Mayor. The small group of officers grumbled about Malthaels garbs being something they'd only see in their nightmares. Townsfolk on the sidewalks gawked at him murmuring among themselves about seeing a hunter. Salem was a large town and had a populace of 10,000 (guessing this would be a big number for a town), and even more living outside the towns limits. Malthael looked down at his feet where there was a sewer entrance. He grabbed the old cast-iron lid and pulled it up before dropping inside. He lit a torch and a plant that was braided through a eye-shaped silver medallion, which let off a slight aroma. He walked quietly but quickly through the sewers. He saw what he'd expect to see; ill and potentially hostile men and women, the occasional giant rat, and other less hostile creatures. He did snag a fairy which he dispatched quickly and stored it's blood in a vial. The other fairies screamed at the sight of what happened to their friend before flying off in different directions. He stopped at the edge of a long drop that led deeper into the sewer. He lit a second torch and through it into the darkness where it plummeted a good fifty to sixty feet before it hit the ground. Shadows in the depths scurried away quickly avoiding the light. He rested his hand on the grip of his blunderbuss before quickly turning around and stooping to the ground. "Where are you," he said out loud, "I can smell you..." He went back the way he came and looked down the darkness of a separate path, "I can hear you." He spun around quickly again as he placed the barrel of his blunderbuss against the face of a young girl. She shook slightly but unable to run. Malthael tilted his head slightly seeing that the young girl had been attacked by a Giant Rat. "You are lucky it didn't kill you," Malthael said, "but unlucky you ran into me." He squeezed the trigger and turned the girl into a pink mist before standing upright again. The light of the blunderbuss caused several of the sewer dwellers to cover their eyes and cry out. "Don't think that I forgot about you," Malthael said turning around seeing a large shadow standing on the other side of the sewer, "what? You don't like wolfsbane? Is that why you are afraid to attack me with my back turned... or is it something else? Do I offend you?" The werewolf snarled at him showing it's teeth before disappearing back into the darkness. "So there is a presence here," Malthael said to himself as he kicked the girls body into the sewer, " Gerrick wasn't lying..." He raised his voice calling out to the werewolf, "I'll see you soon!" It only took him a moment to climb back out of the sewer where he had first entered. The townsfolk saw him and stared for a moment before continuing about their business. He looked down both sides of the street before he turned to the Inn. A young man rushed toward him and stopped presenting him with a key. "Your room is on the third floor sir," he said, "your luggage has been delivered to room 315." Malthael took the key and presented the young man with some money before entering the Inn. He didn't speak to anyone and he stopped at his door. He spoke a silent prayer and blessed his door before entering.[/hider]
