Few but the longest lived races can recollect what a sprawling field looked like. What truly made mountains so inspiring to look upon as the soared to the skies. This world isn't even close to the way it was. 200 years of rising water changed the very planet from a green wonderland to an endless ocean, filled with unnatural mutations. With the water reclaiming the land it has forced a harsh decrease in population, eradicating the dwarves and elves to near extinction. Humans thrive in the chaos of ocean life and adapted quickly as dock cities made from salvaged materials sprang into existence to collect wayward mariners caught in the seas grip. Elves have lost the forested homes their ancestors cultivated. Lost beneath the absolute darkness of the unforgiving waves. The power of their gods warped flesh and bone to create the Sea Elves we know today. With their aid, humans were capable of anchoring their cities in key areas around the world, now reduced to thousands of miniscule islands or what is left of towering mountains. 200 years of development is not merely limited to life above the shifting waves. Magic has been catered exclusively to newfound needs. Water breathing, buoyancy, water walking, even the creation of soil to be used on floating barges of wood and steel protected by every sentient race. Each city state that comes to power is entrusted to dedicate military strength to one such vessel for the good of its people, and to reinforce political partnership. War fought over food would be a disaster for everyone. Pirates do not care for others and often attack barges, rarely to any effect. These individuals are often put on a priority list for wayward mercenaries. Mercenary crews have sprung up across the deep reaches. Acting as hired muscle to keep watch where dedicated navy ships cannot and are commissioned as protectors against the unknown and lawless parts of the sea deemed too hostile for living. City states often anchor permanently in areas referred to as the shallows. Sometimes more than 100 feet deep, the elves anchor thick chains to the ocean floor. Their own cities crop up below the humans, a means of protection for both.

The first of three major mixed races kingdoms, Laxen is comprised of tall stone spires jutting from the shallow waters below. Stretching hundreds of feet in the air, with many large patches of solid ground, the spot was colonized and built from the ground up originally with wreckage scrounged from the seas. Over the last 80 years with knowledge and craftsmanship on the rise as artisans and thinkers alike pool their efforts for advancement of life, the city has swelled to great numbers. Lumber is still quite scare so many of the homes on the cliffs are made of stone mined out from below the waves. What little wood there is available has been used to create suspension bridges and ladders connecting the many pillars. At the shoreline of each pillar lays the working class. Fishermen, miners, peasants. Easy access to the sea is essential to the thriving community here. Further up on the stone pillars are castles for those in military vocations, investing in the community while offering their protection from seaborne threats both above and below. New recruits are taken for the Laxen militia willingly. The first settlers here cultivated the land with blood and tears as the hostile wildlife was driven back to the seas. Their desperate struggle for 'home' was rewarded with a wide cavern free from the waves outside. Safe from the storms and difficult to assail it is the ideal position for which to overlook their kingdom. The royals of today are in charge of the true military might for Laxens newly developed Naval fleets, sporting nearly 50 ships hard earned. Each ship flies the Black fish flag.
Dario Laxen Son of the founder, eldest of 7 and last of the line, Dario is a fierce combatant despite being close to 70 years of age. A jovial man with his priorities driven solely on the protection of home and people. It is through his political action with the dock cities to the south that supplies for repairs, food, and workers, has become solidified. With the partnership of the Sea Elves the protection of each town and pillar is all but assured. The relationship between Laxen and their associates below the waves stems from mutual survival but a great deal of respect to culture and acceptance. With his reign coming to a close, it is whispered among the townsfolk that the Fleet Admiral will take hold of the free towns. Others speculate it is far stranger. Dario's daughter has had renewed contact with her father in recent years, having become a successful captain in her own right. Lytheria is the oldest city in the world and has had it's fair share of raids in the past, however this isn't an issue now that it's military is among one of the largest. Other than it's accolades in terms of size, it also has one of the few academies that explores magic outside of the typical uses; to further support this, there are buildings called 'Dry rooms' in which water has been removed to allow for these experiments.
The Aliran
The Alirans have been the rulers of Lytheria, and elves since the flooding of the world. In the past they have been tyrannical, their land-living ancestors were warmongers, conquering all of their neighboring kingdoms within a few decades. Over the centuries after the flooding, the Alirans ironically played a major role in bringing peace between the races, as well as fostering their symbiotic relationship, using their knowledge of the arcane and their resources to help support the first human colonies that inhabited the small amounts of land that remained. Atop those titanic slabs of stone rested the Dwarven keeps! Gilded steel, bogged down with artistry and gemstones to set a kings heart to jealousy! All crafted by hand over millenia by the artisans of these small bearded folks. Times have changed and these grand tales remain just that. Tall tales. Few have seen the remains of a Dwarven fortress below the waves and never are they brave enough to enter its truly lightless depths, unable to move the sealed gates barring entry to all manner of things. Rumors speak that the last fortresses below the waves thrive on, still, despite the flooding. Others speak of it as nonsense. Surely the floods have drowned or suffocated the stragglers beneath her. None alive know the truth. What is known however was the luck of Clan Doubleblade, artisan warriors all, who made their home atop the lustrous plateaus of their once mighty mountains and cultivated the land with gentle touch. The floods have removed the lower hills and its once green orchards but the tall hilltop remains. Karaz Kharagul lives on by the grace of the bearded gods, so they say. Stretching over 25 km from one beach to the other. While it has its rocky terrain scattered across its surface, there is still much malleable soil to the north of the island being used for all manner of wars. Nearly half of the island is claimed by its Dwarven rulers as farmland and employs any able bodied folk willing to work her fields. Everything from the potatoes to tobacco is grown in sections as best they can manage, with the bulk of the growing cities food supply taking top priority. Other goods are collected from the iron barges (A Dwarven creation.). From mountaineers to fisherman the Dwarf people have adapted to their new life away from the song of steel and stone to the violent crash of wave of wood as they outfit the brave outlanders on their journey to reclaim the world. At the head of the family sits kings Landrik Doubleblade, a redhaired old veteran who walked the world when last it saw the seas pushed back well over 300 years ago. Landrik holds a volatile distaste for the greenskins and their ilk, paying good money for their ears and even more for Orc captives. With a foundation of stone and ample housing already sunken beneath the waves it was inevitable that they would trade the lost items found beneath back to their rightful owners in exchange for the property as a show of good faith. Unlike other Elven settlers who work by favored or oldest houses for leadership, the Elves of Ref Dorthore rely on input from all houses before large operations are declared or decisions effecting a majority. Sections of their newly made undercities are governed by one their hunters most times. A large portion of their people make up their homes on the northside where the vulnerable crops grow on the surface, protecting it from hungry wildlife driving up from the sea in search of easy meals.
