-snip
It was now very late in the night. About half of the soldiers on the top of the dune were sleeping, while the other half was keeping watch on any activity from the fortified encampment about 100 meters away. Some of the soldiers had made their own fortifications out of wood, rocks and sand to protect them in the event of incoming enemy fire. General Anderson was getting very hungry, and very tired. She hadn't eaten a few hours before the daily meeting of the Kurultai had started, and while the rations that the soldiers had brought with them were nutritious enough for a few hours of intense combat, they could not make up for a lack of eating for more than half a day. She laid down to prepare to sleep when General Nurzhan woke her up with a "You know you're not supposed to be sleeping on the job" comment. Katie shot him an angry look and said nothing. Suddenly, General Yun picked up his walkie-talkie and said just one word: "Now". Then slowly all soldiers that were sleeping were woken up by their comrades that had been watching the encampment, and in unison lit their flashlights and pointed them at the beach, lighting up the encampment with blinding light, as well as aiming their weapons at the fortified encampment. Diplomat Stephen handed General Nurzhan a megaphone, and he climbed to the top of the dune, as he was wearing an experimental suit of power armor that he had found laying around in the helicopter that brought them to the coast a few hours ago, so he was the only one that would be safe in case the people on the shore started firing. "Hello unknown people over there," He said while standing on top of the dune "You are in our territory and we demand you identify yourselves and leave immediately, or else we will open fire." After he said those words the coastal guns sitting on both ends of the crescent-shaped dune fired a warning shot right over the encampement into the water. Katie meanwhile was too tired to say anything insulting about what Arman was doing.
-snip
The few observatories that the Khaganate had at that moment had been tracking this suborbital object as soon as they saw its approach. The astronomers stationed there thought it was just a simple meteorite, an event that happened commonly, although they would just burn up in the atmosphere most of the time. From the suborbital trajectory the scientists could calculate the impact site of the object, and it was surprisingly close to the Lanist Khaganate. So close in fact, that one of the astronomers contacted Isaac Plant, the minister of the Ministry of Science, who was free at the moment because of the abrupt end of the day's Kurultai meeting. Isaac agreed to help set up an expedition towards the predicted impact site, and but a few hours later it was already on its way. At the Khaganate's border a few IFV's got assigned to escort the expedition, as the land outside Khaganate territory was seen as unsafe. They encountered nothing on their way, and the Melanija Regina Expedition, as it was now called after the astronomer that had predicted the meteor-like object's impact site first, arrived safely at their destination, and set up in large circle around the impact site. A few hours later, their efforts were rewarded, and they could see the green cylinder landing perfectly at the anticipated place. They also saw it melt and form into a human person right before their eyes. And while the scientists were amazed, the military was not. The local commander that had been sent on the mission to escort picked up his communicator, a smart-phone like device, and called his boss to tell him that they have found something weird at the impact site. The boss in turn informed Omega Order, a highly secretive and classified organization dedicated to fight against aliens, the paranormal, and many other non-conventional threats the Lanist Khaganate might face. Only the highest military officials may know of this organization, and the local commander's boss was one of them. Nevertheless, the organization's existence was sort of an open secret, as Omega Order was well known by the Khanians as an organization that fought and protected the Khaganate against the unknown. James "Sentinel" Maleski was not having a good day. He was smelling like a mixture of rotten eggs and human feces, owing to the escape and subsequent elimination of one of the strange creatures that the Omega Order contained to study, that he had been sent on a mission together with his task force, Phalanx Alpha, against. After the monster broke out, it soon overwhelmed the facility with its horrible stench and Phalanx Alpha had been sent in with gas masks to get rid of it. They did so swiftly and effectively, but the gas masks did not prevent the smell from getting through his body armor and stain his clothes. He just finished up changing and only washing his short, brown hair when he received a SCRAMBLE alert. He immediately ran to his designated briefing room where most of Phalanx Alpha was already waiting. As soon as everyone was there, their commander began speaking "At 2:00 AM, an unknown object came from orbit and landed at a location here, east of the Khaganate," He said while pointing at a projected map, he continued, "After touching down, this object melted, and transformed into a female human with wings that flew off towards our nation. I want you to make sure this creature does not reach our territory, as we do not know what it's capable of and is likely to be dangerous, if possible capture this creature for further study. Understood?" "Yes sir!" Everyone replied, and they went towards the armory to pick up all of their weapons and gear. "I hope this one doesn't stink as much as the previous one." James jokes to a man named Martinez, one of his closest friends, and the team went of towards the dropship they used to deploy into missions. Barely five minutes later, the VTOL dropship took off with nearly everyone on board, and immediately accelerated to Mach 2, its maximum speed. Barely fifteen minutes later, the dropship arrived at its destination and everyone jumped out. All around the female human, strange men and women suddenly fell out of the sky and dropped in a circle around her, pointing their rifles at her. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Meanwhile, the Kurultai had come together to continue their meeting deep in the night while Yuri and the others were still absent, and had decided to carry out General Yun's plan, and they gave the order to expand a little bit towards the arctic to set up a few scientific outposts there to start studying the region better. It only took an hour for enough soldiers to assemble near the edge of the real pole. They all came from former nations of Earth such as Russia and Canada, or arctic and tundra worlds the Khaganate had colonized, and thus were well adapted to the cold climate of the northern pole. Their vehicles were all winterized as well, and so the first of the Khaganate's expansions into the arctic began.
