"Hey, what are you doing?" Lucy stopped for a moment between the boys and the girls' cabins, hearing Katie's words from somewhere behind her, but her mind actively choosing to ignore it. Instead, she stared straight ahead, beyond the hell that was solitary and over onto the hills way off in the background. •❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅• "Luce, come on get over here!" Charlie waved over from the edge of the lake. He was wearing swimming trunks just like Damien, who kept jumping off the small, wooden dock. "Hey, what are you doing?" Lucy looked up at her dad, who approached her with a smile on his face. "I thought you wanted to get in the water?" he went on. "The hills are pretty," Lucy said, returning his smile. She stared for a little while longer before reaching up for his hand so they could walk to the edge of the lake together. Charlie chuckled, giving her hand a little squeeze. "You know, I love how you find beauty in everything...it means you have a kind heart." Lucy was young, just 8 years old, and even though she didn't quite understand the meaning behind her father's words, it still made her appreciate them. •❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅• A stray bullet barely missed her as Lucy finally snapped out of it. She turned around to face Katie, urging her to get back inside the cabin. "We have to stay safe!" Her adrenaline skyrocketed as Lucy grabbed Katie's wrist and pulled her towards the cabin. She ran for the door, closing it behind her once they were both safe inside. "It's chaos out there, what do we do?" Lucy didn't only address Katie, but the rest of the girls in the cabin as well.
