Her stubborn attitude often gets her into trouble, but she envisions herself as a future leader aboard the vessel. When complimented, she can get quite full of herself, but her need to be needed makes her eager to please. Ka is always the first to volunteer for a new task, no matter how dangerous or above her caliber it may be. In addition, she is known to shirk her duties as she searches for "higher" opportunities. She feels her talent is wasted just cleaning the ship as she seeks to prove herself; a True Spitfire. History Ka was born deep in the slums of a dock city struggling to stay afloat. Her parents were young when they had her, but sought to provide the best life for her. Although they remained optimistic, their hopes were shaken when Ka began to crawl and move around on her own. She would constantly bump into things, falling over and even ending up in the ocean on more than one occasion. It was easy for them to see that their darling daughter had problems with her vision. But with her father working day and night as an unsuccessful mercenary, and her mother just barely scrounging together enough money from selling rags she had sewn together, they had no access to a doctor for their daughter. This resulted in Ka being raised within a very sheltered environment. Her mother was afraid to let her outside, worried she may be taken by the rough waves, so she spent much of her life behind tin walls. As she grew older, she was forbidden from helping with chores or even accompanying her parents out in public. Rumors began to spread of a child cursed by elves, and her parents became ashamed. Ka felt trapped in that room. She spent many of her days sitting by the open window, with the sun on her face, dreaming of the outside and wishing she had not been born so deformed. It was only when tragedy struck that she decided to take action. Her father did not come home one evening, and she felt the weight of the world placed on her mother's shoulders. She put up a tough facade, but Ka could hear her mother's heart break with each tear behind that locked door. So, late one night, while her mother slept, Ka escaped through that open window in search of a solution. If she could find a cure to her blindness, she could take some of her mother's burden. She could be useful for the first time in her life. As she felt her way around the town, she found herself lost and confused, pleading to the universe for a miracle. She ended up in the hands of a witch doctor, who promised to heal her eyes for a steep price that at the time remained unnamed. In a leap of youthful faith, Ka accepted the witch's terms. She was then woven into a deep sleep, and woke up a full week later to find the miracle had come true- she saw the blue sky for the first time, the docks, the endless ocean. The world seems to go on forever and she felt like she could do anything! Her worries were over, her mother's worries were over... She was free! Or so she thought. The price for her sight was more than she could have ever dreamed. When she returned home, she found her mother bedridden, having fallen ill with worry while Ka was away. She was free to enjoy the world and all of its splendor, but at the cost of her mother's freedom. It was soon after this that Ka came to work on the Great Aquarius. She could find no other job that would take her, as she had wasted her life away in that room with no skills to show for it. She tried other jobs in the dock town, from fishing to hauling supplies, but as she was small she was often beaten and laughed at. It was when her magic began to develop, born from her need to defend herself, that the captain took notice and brought Ka aboard her ship. It was when she was left in an ally, nearly left for dead, that Delilah reached out her generous hand and offered this stranger a job aboard her ship. It wasn't much of a job, just cleaning the deck and the cabins, but thanks to her generosity, the newly-sighted young lass was able to provide her mother with medicine and money to live comfortably until she passed several years later, having died peacefully with no worries. And on top of that Ka got to see sights and places she could never have imagined. To this day, Ka admires and respects the captain, and even seeks to be like her, to give the rest of her thus-far meaningless life to this ship and its crew. She vowed to never take her vision for granted, and can often be seen taking in every sight, trying to remember every detail. Her efforts may be misguided and reckless, but she moves forward with a confidence that only the captain is able to reign in.
