When she was old enough to think for herself, she found that her mother was nothing but an uncaring woman she has to share a last name with. Miriam inherited a decent sum of money from a deceased family member and used it to setup a business. Through clever business decisions (and constantly being underestimated), she could built her small company into a nation spanning business in just a few years. It was around this time she also got Elizabeth. Though nobody knows who the father is, nobody seems to particularly care. Miriam continued to built her business and branch out into other industries. One particularly was the energy business. She made good money from drilling for oil. However, when one rig exploded, killing several workers and polluting the sea around it, Miriam got a change of heart. She began to focus on sustainable energy. Through her effort massive solar farms and wind parks were constructed. Supplying green, clean energy for everyone. Miriam was often praised for ‘saving humanity’ as her initiatives in clean energy, electric car construction and donating literal billions to charities. Yet in saving humanity, she forsook a single human: Elizabeth. The girl, early in life, always heard how great her mother was. While simultaneously never seeing her. In her younger years she wanted to be just like her. Though a certain resentment grew inside the girl. She never got the acceptance she so desperately craved, not did she get the attention a child should receive. This bitterness grew inside her and it grew only stronger when she started working for Camwell Conglomerate. She became the best executive onboard. Yet still she only saw her mother during meetings. At which she acted as if Elizabeth was just another employee and not, in fact, her daughter. To Miriam’s credit, she only did this not to upset the other executives. Making it appear like she was not putting her own child before others. Her fast rise on the corporate ladder did not make keeping those rumors silent. So Miriam often acted as an ice queen towards Elizabeth. Which, obviously, made things even worse. Right until Miriam collapsed during a fundraiser at Milan. She was rushed to a hospital, where they diagnosed her with cancer. Knowing this was a sign that she should stop, Miriam declared that she would leave the company. But a Camwell would always rule and so, the only gift she ever gave Elizabeth, was Camwell Conglomerate. Elizabeth did not sit still. Publicly she thanked her mother and swore she would continue to spearhead sustainable technology. In truth though, Elizabeth was beyond herself. She even threw a yacht party to celebrate her mother’s departure. See, Elizabeth had grown dark in her bitterness. The original executive team at Camwell Conglomerate were all cut from the same wood as Miriam. People willing to improve the world. Often times they sacrificed entire year bonuses for this goal. Beneath them though, newer people did not remember the conglomerate’s start and only saw the money. Amongst the younger generation, Elizabeth had found her kind. Now they would follow her everywhere. The next two years were marked by ‘trimming’ the old executive team. Elizabeth raised her own minions to the top positions. When that was done, Camwell Conglomerate changed. The focus shifted from renewable energy to the big money makers. Oil, coal, iron, gold, diamonds. The many wind farms remained but were never expanded. Only used to keep the front and hide the truth: that Camwell was no longer the driving force behind sustainability. Elizabeth was especially vicious at this change. Her bitterness has changed to hatred by this point. She swore she would destroy every icon her mother had raised. As said, as done. Elizabeth tore down every statue, gutted every fund, fired every employee that raised the wrong questions. Those loyal were rewarded with obscene bonuses. Now Miss Camwell has set her sights on one of Miriam’s last icons. A hidden jewel, Miriam rarely talked about it. If not for her dutiful minions, she may have never found it in the bureaucratic nightmare that was becoming the archives. But she did and when she got her hands on the first pictures, she knew she must have it. But for what? How would she tarnish such a perfect island? Then she noticed the report sticking behind it. A survey. The land and sea was sitting on top of an entirely untapped oil well. Elizabeth ordered her mega-yacht to be prepared. She would pay a visit to these brave souls of Haven.
