The changes can be minor, such as altering her facial structure to appear unrecognisable, hiding her horns to appear human, or they can be extreme, such as taking the form of a cat or raven. One thing she cannot change is the eyes; they always stay red, glowing ever so faintly – as such she often wears rose-tinted glasses with round lenses. Charm – For up to one-hour Lilith can charm a person, who will then hold her in high regard and obey simple commands. The effect can be resisted by those of strong character and willpower, and fails entirely if attempted on those who have supernatural bloodlines. The effect is also broken if a self-destructive command is given. Ghastly Visage – For an instant Lilith will conjure up a ghastly visage from her repertoire, meant to shock her target, and instil a rightful sense of fear in those of a less infernal or divine disposition. Dream Presence – An ability gained from her Incubus siring, she can enter the dreams of the sleeping and seduce them to plant ideas, which they may retain upon waking, whilst losing the memory of the dream to the aether. Fortified Will – Forcing her will upon others paired with the mental conditioning necessary to survive being thrown into the deep-end of Hell has given Lilith a will of iron. Weakness: Mirrors – Anything more than a flash of her own reflection in her peripheral vision and she’ll be immobilised by horror, the discord between the twin natures of her being and the dissonance between what she is and what she seems to be will be brought to the forefront. The time it takes to regain control will vary, and for a period afterwards she will be particularly susceptible to attack both physical and psychological, as she will be distracted. Whilst her mind is in this enfeebled state, she is also vulnerable to internal crisis. Backstory: Born from the unholy union between woman and demon, Lilith was sired by an Incubus and birthed by a dock whore and opium addict. She seemed like a normal child, except for her eyes – terrible red things. This meant Lilith was forced by her mother to spend most of the time in the brothel attic, where many revelations came somewhat prematurely. Still, rumours abounded about the devil child in the rafters. After a thrashing from her mother and the brothel owners, she learnt to be quiet. Whilst not the most exuberant lifestyle, there was a handful her mother’s trusted friends that saw to her education, teaching her not just general knowledge, but also, rather questionably, secrets of their trade, often in the form of humorous anecdotes. When her mother was not in a drug-addled fugue, sometimes she would teach too. On her fourteenth birthday she was given a pair of rose coloured glasses to disguise her eyes, and was taken to the market, the first time she’d seen the outside world, having only escaped through storybooks before. One month later she was working in the brothel, forced into it by her mother – too short of money thanks to her habit. On her eighteenth birthday a strange, lithe man stole her away, with barely a protest from her mother; a hefty, jangling pouch saw to that. Then they went to hell. Time was hard to keep track of after that. The torments and tribulations ring hollow in the back of her mind, sealed off now, but at the time… at the time only her bloodline had saved her mind from shattering, but perhaps it had not kept it whole either. She supposed that’s why her father had taken her back. During this period, she was reconditioned to the ways of Hell, tutored in the many intricacies of an apparently barbarian and insidious place, and used her understanding to quickly curry favour. Her dormant demonic nature awoke, her appearance altered; horns sprouted, eyes developed a faint incandescence. Yet she learnt to conceal these, and assured her place as an invaluable Fixer, familiar with humanities’ customs and ideals. She became obsessed with climbing the teetering hierarchy, developing an insatiable ambition. Well, part of her did, anyway.
