}[/sub]

With her arms folded across her chest, Valentina listened intently as the rest of her friends told their stories. She'd been living in Long Beach her entire life; she knew all too well about the crime and violence that went down in this city, as well as the justice, or lack thereof, that followed. Hearing that all of these terrible things had happened to her friends practically made Tina's blood boil with anger. When the sound of a faint jingle reached her ears, Valentina immediately raised her head and looked towards the door. As expected, Nick and his usual fluffy companion, Sindy, came walking through the door. Seeing the pooch instantly lifted the young woman's spirits; she had a soft spot for dogs, especially this one. She was slightly saddened to see the dog's recent injury. As Nick and Sindy walked by, Tina let her hand fall to her side and gently rub the pup on her back before she was scooped up into Nick's arms. "Yeah, what Lindsay said," Tina also answered the older boy, "We're reminiscing about all of those wonderful times when we've been fucked over by these street thugs, lousy police officers, and basically the entire legal system." As Tina spoke, she pulled her cell phone from her back pocket, eager to check for any new messages. She paused mid swipe, however, once Ally began to speak. While Valentina knew that the crime rate in Long Beach was gradually riding, especially since their local law enforcement never seemed to take action when something went down, it had never once crossed her mind that she should be the one to put an end to it all. In fact, as soon as the last couple of sentences came out of Ally's mouth, Tina's feelings could clearly be seen all over her face. Sure, she was frustrated and all, but she wasn't about to put herself in a position that would definitely result in her ending up dead. No, she was not a superhero, and the little group of friends that sat around in the room was definitely not a Justice League. "Yeah, you're crazy," Tina said with a chuckle, "I mean, I'm all of neighborhood watch. We can put up a bunch of posters and shit like you see in the rich neighborhoods. But form a Justice League? Girl..." Tina trailed off as she searched the faces of her friends who sat nearby. She wanted to see their reactions, as well as hear their opinions. Valentina figured that Ally was simply joking about the whole superhero thing, but decided to entertain the idea anyway. After another few seconds, Tina sighed, leaned back into her chair and said, "Whatever. As long as I don't have to be Superman. There's no way in hell I'm putting on tights."
