It would be rare a boy that age, even a Midshipman /Cabin boy be allowed on a Naval vessel and only then if they were related to the Captain or higher rank aboard. Powder monkey's were sometimes as young as 10 but taken only if they had the strength and stamina to do the task.

We probably will be assigned to the Channel fleet, or a squadron in the north Atlantic
