Something like this could definitely work, but I would ask that it be kept in line with the cosmology and magic guidelines in the OP. You may want to check the hider with more setting details and check out the entry for Red Gods, which might also fit your theme.

A Dratha or some other sorcerer/adventurer who got possessed by some ancient evil or alien spirit is totally workable.
