Change is painful. But nothing is more painful as being stuck somewhere you don’t belong." — Author[/sup]

Appearance

Standing at a measly 5’4” and weighing it at just over 110lbs, Olivia is a rather small girl. With a lean, sporty build tailored from her love of skateboarding and mountain biking, she is rather athletic and has a fair amount of muscle definition in her legs. Her long brown hair is often seen with a single streak of vibrant dye, normally blue or purple, and is usually kept down. Not being one for looking like a barbie, she keeps her face looking mostly natural with conservative usage of makeup. Her only notable features are the few tattoos she has (acquired from sources not requiring parental permission of course), one of which runs the length of her right calf, the other on her left shoulder blade. The former was acquired on her sixteenth birthday as a present to herself, the latter was acquired much more recently as a message to her parents’ constant attempts to get her into medicine. Olivia normally dresses for comfort. Her usual attire is a pair of beat up jeans or capris length yoga pants with a loose, off-shoulder top or tank-top. On a colder day, she’ll usually be seen wearing a flannel shirt overtop of her normal clothing as well as a loose beanie. Olivia will also normally wear her faded red Converse shoes on a warmer day, or her leather riding boots on a colder one.
Personality

Despite her very comfortable upbringing, Olivia is a rather troubled individual. With her parents, she’s contradictory and rebellious, unwilling to bend to their wishes for her. While her parents want her to get into medicine much like themselves, Olivia hates the idea and she aims to show that dislike to them in any way possible. Much like her brother Elliot, she is quite the spitfire when she’s in a bad mood. However, that’s not to say she’s not a decent person. When she’s not showing her dislike of her parents’ view, she’s actually quite a kind and caring person. While slow to trust a new face, when she does warm up to someone she is loyal to a fault and will try to be there for her friends. The little rebellious streak in her brain is balanced by a good heart and a decently guided moral compass. Olivia is also not one to follow many rules and has made frequent visits to the principal’s office at her school. Almost the polar opposite of her parents -- and probably because her parents were such saints -- Olivia loves to bend the rules and seek the not-so-legal thrills in life. An adrenaline junky to the core and little fear in her heart, she lives on the wilder side of life. In her mind, a boring life is not a life to be had.
Upbringing

Born on a bright and sunny day in Salem, Olivia was the fifth and final (hopefully) child of the Horton family. Being the youngest wasn’t so hard, all she had to do was blame her older siblings and trouble would never come her way. It was here that Olivia’s rebellious streak first started. Throughout her entire primary school career, she learned that the most fun was had when rules were broken. Fences were climbed, paper airplanes were thrown and music was listened to in class. She should’ve had a frequent flier’s card for the principal’s office. About halfway through primary school, Olivia’s parents sat her down one night and had a little chat with her. They explained that if she was trying to get their attention, all she had to do was say something. The doctor and his wife explained that school was important and it affected her entire life. If she messed up now, her life would be harder down the road. But of course, being the eleven year old that Olivia was, all of this advice from her parents went in one ear and right out of the other. And then high school came. Her entire world changed as an entirely new environment surrounded her with an entirely new group of people. Of course she still had her old friends from public school, but this was different. Olivia started hanging out with guys more often, learned to skateboard and found a new interest in guitar, partially from her brother. Her grade nine year was short, fun and loaded with excitement. Grade ten was much of the same. More boys, more skateboarding and definitely more guitar. She was as happy as could be, even if her parents were rather disapproving of the whole teenage rebel phase that Olivia was going through. Hopefully it was just a phase. But when they need me the most, I will be their guardian angel." — Jessica Horton[/sup]

Appearance

Jessica has a rather average build with a slight athletic tone to it, retaining slight curves in the right areas. The young woman stands 5’7” and weighs about 150lbs, remaining on the lighter side of an average woman’s weight. Jessica keeps her long, brown hair neat, tidy and tucked away the vast majority of the time, usually in either a loose ponytail or a tight bun (the former for casual, day to day wear, the latter for when she’s at work). Her soft brown eyes are warm and welcoming, giving off a certain feeling of comfort to those around her. Jess has a wardrobe that could only be described as a more formal cousin of casual. She dresses for comfort most of the time, but that doesn’t mean compromising on her looks. Given that she’s normally on-call for the emergency room, most of what she wears doesn’t take long to put on, so she mostly limits herself to a clean, undamaged pair of jeans or capris; a tank top, business shirt or blouse; and a pair of comfy flats or sneakers, never heals. Occasionally, one can spot Jessica sporting a light summer dress if she felt particularly adventurous that day.
Personality

Though she isn’t one (and doesn’t plan on it, at least not for a while), Jessica is much like a mother. Although this may have come from her career at the hospital and how she watches over her patients like a hawk, it also manages to describe her general outlook on society and its members. Any time she sees someone being taken advantage of, whether it be in the bar or out on the streets, she is quick to intervene. Over the few short years she’s spent working as an ER nurse in Salem, she’s been selfless to a fault and prioritizes her patient’s well being over anything, sometimes even family. In her mind, the moment she walks in that door, she’s no longer Jessica Horton, she’s a nurse. Nothing else matters until her shift is over. However, not everything is sunshine and lollipops in her world. Long shifts at the hospital and her many years of study have worn on her patience, and she can sometimes be extremely harsh; brutally honest almost to a fault. Jessica is also extremely stubborn and if you contest her about something, expect her to contradict it in any way she can. Jessica is also quite a spitfire and is easily aggravated when not working, often followed by either silent judgement or an everlasting grudge. Her current career at the hospital has also led to her frequently detaching herself mentally from a situation to avoid, and has made relationships rather….difficult for her.
Upbringing

Like literally every other one of her siblings, Jessica was born in the Salem University Hospital. Brought into the world on the morning of a warm June day, she was the third of the five Horton children, placing her in the awkward role of the middle child. Adored at first, put aside later as her parents focused on her younger siblings Elliot and Olivia. In her mind however, there was no jealousy. There was only love and acceptance from her, the unbreakable bond of family. She watched over her younger two siblings up until she finished high school, often helping them with homework or comforting them on bad days. Speaking of her education, Jessica was an excellent student. Having been grilled to do well by her parents, she tried her absolute hardest in school, driven by the promise of a career in the medical field later in her life. Straight A’s in the vast majority of her classes, but few friends around her through high school. Jess wasn’t the social butterfly that a lot of the other girls in Salem High were. Never good in groups of more than a few people, never good at public speaking and never good at talking to guys. She was all book-smarts. After graduating from Salem High with a really good scholarship, Jessica immediately enrolled in the Nursing program at the University of Salem. It wasn’t medical school like her parents had hoped, but they were still happy that she had decided to stay within medecine. For four years, she worked as hard as she possibly could and saw little interaction with others apart from her part time job at the Café. And it all paid off. Graduating with honors, she was almost immediately offered a position at the University Hospital in the I.C.U. A year later, she migrated to the E.R. and enjoyed every moment of it. Something about saving people’s lives on a daily basis made up for all of the lonelier years of her childhood and teenager life. She continues to work there now, though her passion for the job is dwindling slowly.
Misc
- After completing her Master’s degree, Jessica hopes to become a Nurse Practitioner.
