[@RumikoOhara]I'm not that familiar with the Rings either, outside of the Green ones.  Mostly I've just seen comic reviews with the rings in them.

You could just play the original character and not bother with the ring if you want, or just have it tell you "I can heal them" whenever the opportunity arises and the like.  Or I can have a an NPC try to teach you to use it.
