Thankfully since your character isn't starting with the rest that means it doesn't matter if you're a bit late to the party so to speak.

I would say it has been about a month since the angel started the journey, meaning your character and the other one have joined up during that time.  That gives your character probably about...oh say a week or so on the ship.  Not enough time to really get to know the others, but enough to at least maybe know some basics about them.
