People aren't just their professions, and to flesh them out as people, their interests and arts could help the ship in their off time.  I had my character specifically written that since hes extroverted he organizes leisurely activities and movie nights with his crew and anyone else that wants to come along.  Doing things to keep morale high.  

I even have him do painting and inking cause he's a nerd when it comes to Old Earth cartoons and animations.  Its a personal project that he is even trying to make his own cartoon to show to other people and maybe claim a hallway near his quarters as an impromptu art gallery, just to splash some color on the cold walls.

While it wouldn't come up alot, having her be a singer too would be rather awesome.  Imagine during a particularly long lull of nothing happening that the crew organizes a talent show of sorts at year 3 of 5 or whatever.  Its little dumb things like that makes a ship a home ^^
