"You did." Player Name: Oakman Character Name: Dr. Ludwig Dobrov XII Character Age: Born 2176 – 45 years old. Character Gender: Male Profession: HCCA (Head of Civilian Crew Affairs) – Office of Civil Rights. Nationality: Roslin Federation. Strengths: "Riots are the sparks, Revolution is the Fire" Dr. Ludwig has the natural ability to address a massive crowd of people from different backgrounds and speak his ideas, message, ideals, and thoughts without hesitation. He can unite a group of people for a common cause, as he has done so quite a few times during his life. Dr. Ludwig's talent is in that initial cry of encouragement and unification, he only unites the people under one banner, ignite the spark. However he has never took the actual role of leading people, or seeing what he is rallying people for through. Most of times he believes in what he yells- as he prefers to speak without the aid of technology, believing human voice to be powerful enough- other times he is paid to rally people to a certain cause. He was paid by state governors to calm the dissatisfied people, by politicians looking to gain new backers and supporters, or even start a riot for causes that would benefit a commercial corporation. "I made a fortune as a young teenager by arm-wrestling adult fishermen" Dr Ludwig can arm-wrestle the biggest man in the room and win without breaking a sweat, and he doesn't even use his right prosthetic arm, instead he wrestles with his regular left arm. He always had strength in his arms from a young age, his mother told him he was the descendant of some very strong Scandinavian tribe and ever since he never lost a round of arm-wrestling. Now that he is forty-five years old he stopped partaking in the sport, not for the lack of strength, but to maintain his facade of elegance and status. His right prosthetic arm is a sleek combat-ready issue, meaning he can punch through materials like cardboard, plaster, break bones, or use it as a defensive shield against knives and blunt weaponry. Activating his prosthetic right arm's combat features however drains a lot of energy, and hence they are designed for emergency situations, and rarely to assault a platoon. "The Tongue is the Deadliest Muscle" Aside from his ability to rally a group of people for a certain cause, Dr. Ludwig further developed himself through years of reading and researching human behavior, human motives, body language, psycholinguistics, basic psychology, and economy. He can't manipulate a person to do his bidding, however he can tell why the same individual wouldn't do certain things and thus come up with ways to convince them otherwise. He can partake in debates and use whatever means necessary to win, or get his points across in an unfiltered and uncensored manner. He values expression of thoughts and facts over the consideration of emotion or social decorum, and hence he can sometimes strike below the belt when it comes to heated conversations and debates. Dr. Ludwig can speak to anyone, from a lowly technician with extreme introversion and selective mutism, to a high ranking official with royal background and delusions of grandeur. As long as it involves a tongue, and a set of ears, he can do wonders. Weaknesses: "Material Gain isn't Greed, it's Survival" Dr. Ludwig is forty-five years old yet he never had a stable relationship, he never experienced intimacy, never had a circle of close friends. He can be quite the charming gentleman, or quite the understanding friend, however people always begin avoiding him after getting to know shades of his true personality. He is by far the most materialistic person in the room, he values resources-physical resources- and material gain over anything noble or ulterior. He is quite frank when it comes to material gain, either in the form of currency, promotion, shift in status, or recognition by a body of peers, he always makes it clear to people that it is his priority or motive. And hence he gets a reputation for being selfish, greedy, and of no potential to do good without expecting reward. "Annoying? If a cockroach told you that, would you be offended?" Dr. Ludwig is a massive pain the sides. For what he has in the department of public speaking, analyzing people, and a diction worthy of celebrated writers, he lacks the basic trait of being tolerable. When he is not being ludicrously rude and unbound by basic social etiquette, he is quite annoying and pesky. Sometimes it's his inquisitive attitude, sometimes it's his non-stop monologues, other times it is just his presence in the same room. People have always sought Dr. Ludwig in his line of work for he was among the best in what he accomplished, however people also left him as soon as their queries are answered, not wanting to spend another minute in his presence. This mixed with his principles on prioritizing material gain over deeper spiritual or humane motives earned him the nickname "Dr. Bugwig". "Our greatest enemy isn't the unknown, but the familiar that one night decides to murder the hand which fed it for years" As intelligent and understanding as Dr. Ludwig may seem, he has a great bias against Martians and Fleeters. He doesn't hold grudges for those factions specifically, but he considers people outside of Earth as secondary in importance or level of status. He keeps an open-mind amidst a crowd of scientists and thinkers, however when he is in a room full of common Martians he displays disgust, and unreasonable disdain. This aspect of him is yet to be known publicly, and he doesn't seem to acknowledge it as something he should work on, instead he takes great pride in being Earth-born, and Earth-raised. She was shrieking for help, as if something unnatural was about to befall her, she shifted between sharp screeching and soft, subtle whimpers. A group of three android nurses rushed to the woman and began their programmed protocols of comforting her, calming her down until a Doctor was to arrive. She kept screaming for her husband, the nurses insisted that the woman should relax her vocal cords. After several minutes of struggle the android nurses restrained the woman and injected her with sedatives. "Is it going to risk the delivery?" one android asked in a monotone voice, it was one of them cheaper and older model T//BOT.s medical androids. "Negative, we must separate the two as per the instructions," another android replied. June the 9th, 6:35 AM The middle-aged woman woke up and slowly recollected a distant dream. What started as a brief confusion quickly turned into unspeakable horror when she felt her womb lighter, emptier, and slightly burning. "My Baby," she uttered in fear, then followed by a scream of confusion as she realized she was shackled to her bed. Moments pass by and the same 3 android nurses arrive with the most unnatural mannerisms, the woman didn't know their artificial nature, didn't care as she quickly asked not of her location but the whereabouts of her baby. "Ma'am you are in shock, you were admitted 4 days prior after surviving a lethal accident," an android delivered the facts in the same monotonous voice, "You are the sole survivor, your husband passed away last night. Please take a moment to process your grief," the same android instructed. The woman was left with extreme confusion, her thoughts suddenly suspended upon hearing the death of her husband, and still no mention of her 9 months old unborn baby. 2188 - Neo Portland, Oregon, The Roslin Federation June the 5th, 4:50 PM Ludwig Sat on the porch of his house, observing the afternoon sun shimmering off the pacific waves. His face rested on both his palms, while his thighs supported his elbows. His eyelids covered half his eyeball as he lost himself to the breeze and the sight of fish swarming below the waves. Behind him was a massive traditional hand-made banner that read: "HAPPY 12th BIRTHDAY LUDWIG DOBROV XII - LOVE AND LOVE" And in in a smaller font: "WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH, MOM and DAD" Ludwig's aunt approach him and sat beside him, "where are they Aunt Julie?" Ludwig asked. His aunt couldn't gather the courage to break his heart, she opted to hug him and remind him that he was greatly loved by her, and his parents. 2216 - Undisclosed Site, The Roslin Federation XX XX XX, 3:22 AM Ludwig is 40 years old, single, alone, about to board one of the Arks leaving Earth for good. He was lighting an artificial cigar, staring up the stars, taking in the ghastly play of silent actors and unmasked, naked galaxies. A pair of fingers tapped his shoulder, he turned his head and saw her, his colleague Meredith. "When it was made known to me that we won't be boarding the same Arks it felt like a punch to the gut, but look at me complaining about surviving extinction, even if it meant surviving it alone," she understood him, yet she didn't fear laying it out, expressing her innermost feelings to him. He nodded as if it was richer than any word, as if his nod had greater weight than any made up string of words, and to her it had value. His nod was one of understanding, and perhaps slight grief. She took out a book from her purse and handed it to him, "Look at this, they finally published your autobiography." "A bit late isn't it?" He chuckled. "Not to me, I'm taking a copy with me aboard the Ark," she leaned in to embrace him, she hesitated and pressed her hands against his instead. "Stay safe, I will miss you greatly." He leaned in, embraced her and whispered to her ears, "Thanks you, I will be missing you as well." They exchanged one final glance of warmth, as if that of parting friendship, then she walked away in the night's mist. Ludwig examined the book's cover, much to his chagrin the book used a portrait of his. He browsed through the initial pages and stumbled into the book's outline:
" I was born and raised in Neo Portland, Oregon. My mother fled the European Confederacy after meeting my father, they both eloped to the pacific northwest where they also had their honey moon. I don't remember my early years with them as I only remember as far as the age of six when my Aunt began looking after me, I used to see my father and mother once every 3 weeks, and they'd stay for a short amount of time before leaving again. They kept talking about how they are occupied with something greater than anything they have embarked on, and that even though they loved me they couldn't leave what they were working on. They never told me what they were in charge of, and I stopped caring about it when my mother passed away in 2196. Everybody called it the "Three Day War", the day Humanity and its future was altered in ways it never experienced before. At the time I dismissed the idea of extraterrestrial invaders, and merely blamed the Martians. For some reason or another I was convinced that the Martians finally decided to retaliate against Earth for some reason or another, other days I made up other theories and explanations. This was before I started my career in Linguistics and before getting my PHD's. I was naive, but I was preoccupied with my mother's mysterious death. Even in the midst of Extraterrestrial attack I heard naught from my father, neither to comfort me after losing a mother, or to shield me against an Alien threat. By 2206 I had already completed my Thesis for my 2nd Doctorate in the field of Human Behavior and Linguistic Communications, I had worked as a public speaker for various companies, organizations, political campaigns and propaganda programs. I have made progress in a few under the notion of supporting my beliefs, and most of the times I was paid to move the masses. I am not ashamed to admit that some of the rallies I led were benefiting corporations I won't name, and I was exclusively paid to do just that. In 2207 I was contacted by an organization I won't name that discussed my potential employment in their program, at the time of writing this autobiography the matter was still private, but trust me when you are reading this book fifty years from now, you will know what program I am talking about. In 2215 I began working as the Federation's diplomat in external affairs pertaining to the Genesis Project, during my first 2 years serving as the Federation's representative I was forced to meet and deal with numerous Martians. It was a new experience to me as I have never met a martian before, I have to admit they were different. Something just didn't feel right about Martians, I'm not saying they are inherently problematic, however they think and act differently than we Earth-born would. Nonetheless it was a new experience for me, and I was thrilled not only by the promise of wealth but also fame and recognition by my peers whether on Earth or on Mars."
2221 |CURRENT| the Vitae Ludwig has been on the Vitae for over five years now, he began working as the Head of Civilian Crew Affairs. He was responsible for keeping the awaken civilian crew happy and harass-free from both other civilians and military personnel. Ludwig is also the appointed representative and diplomat speaking for the people of the Roslin Federation, and the official consultant of Federation affairs. Despite his slight bias towards the Federation, Ludwig still considers his service towards the civilians and protecting both their comfort and liberties his utmost responsibilities. In the effort to further establish more clear notions of rights for the civilians and avoid a complete military rule without accountability, Ludwig established the Office of Civil Rights under the authority and blessings of the United Earth Council. It's been five years and for Ludwig it's been the same routine, which mostly included very little intimate human interaction after his official office and working hours. He still thinks of Meredith, the closest person he has to a friend, who unfortunately boarded a different Ark. Ludwig began developing quite the unfavorable reputation for himself as an annoying and pesky person, especially to the Marines and and the higher ranking officials. His inquisitive nature and persistent manner even granted him a few anonymous hate letters, and even one death-threat signed with "You know me, because I hate you so much Dr. Ludwig". Civil Rights and Civilian comfort being the top agendas on Ludwig's schedule, he never hesitates to be pesky to almost anyone necessary to further his agendas and goals. Despite this all, Ludwig is still quite popular among the low ranking workers, engineers, service providers, and anyone that ever felt crushed by unjust situation or parties. Relationships: Nothing intimate or special with anyone specific. Ludwig can talk to almost anyone with no trouble, regardless of rank or status. However due to personality flaws (read weaknesses) it is very hard for people to stick with him beyond his working hours. It is important to note that generally he has a reputation for being annoying and inconvenient, because he prioritizes solving crew issues over the comfort of those responsible or even under question, again regardless of occupation or rank. However, as mentioned in the bio, Ludwig is the people's champ in a sort of way. The working class so to speak and service providers always find a savoir in him whenever they are treated unjustly, threatened, or need help with a party or a situation beyond their hands. Edit: Ops, forgot to touch the Spaghetti
