I modeled Pox to be a uncharacteristically chipper member of a secretive guild associated with plague, death, poisonings, and mass purging with rumors abound of dirty dealings and unexplainable deaths.  Pox kind of understands where all the hate comes from and tries to mollify crowds with politeness and gallows humor.

He could have an issue with Apothecaries, or Pox just might be really really annoying.  Either is equally viable.
