There came a day when the great Goddess, Juhluh, beheld those who swam in the darkness and felt compassion for their souls. By her hand of mercy, Juhluh drew forth the souls from the deep and gave them form, and it was on that day the first Midg were fashioned. Midg were lavishly blessed by the Goddess Juhluh with mighty power and physical prowess. They multiplied and built great cities, and went on to become what is now the great Midg Matriarchy. In the beginning, the Midg built their civilizations above ground. Due to the hindrance of nature’s elements, they have since resorted to subaqueous cities that currently reside in many of the waterholes and coastal regions throughout Akripola. Trace ruins of their ancient land structures can still be found. Midg subaqueous structures are watertight and constructed of various metals; silver, gold, platinum and the like. Their society is a matriarchy with one Queen who reigns absolute over all Midg provinces. Each province, however, has its own governing Consort. As being a matriarchy would suggest, the Consort's too are female. Despite ranks of leadership, the Midg have little need for enforcement of laws. They lead a near harmonious existence with one another and share a deep affinity with nature. This relationship with nature is in many ways symbiotic and the cornerstone of their faith. In the conviction that their Goddess Juhluh is supreme creator, the Midg believe it is their duty above all else to preserve and protect the natural order of life.
Midg
Midg are not made of flesh and blood. Though they outwardly appear …more or less human, their biological workings are remarkably different. Unlike the human body, which is comprised of organs that work interdependently to maintain vital processes, the Midg body has no organs. It is a very dense metalloid of both carbon and metallic properties, comprised of a vast network of cells working as a collective consciousness. The absorption of oxygen, nutrition and other types of life supporting sustenance is achieved by way of touch. Their auditory and visual functions work in much the same way, absorbing vibrations and light on a multidimensional level. The Midg singular design provides great physical strength, endurance and regenerative capabilities while cellular degradation is practically non-existent. The Midge therefore have an indeterminable life span. Clothing: They wear none. Their facial features and physical form are believed to be a gift for the purpose of practical function, visual beauty, and individual identity. Therefore covering ones nakedness would be viewed as sacrilege, an insult to their Goddess Juhluh.
Communication
Since Midg do not, as such, possess sensory organs, all their communicative skills could be considered forms of Telesthesia. Speech: The Midg have various ways of communicating with one another. Their bodies are able to produce vibrations of various tones in the form of speech, and reach a maximum measure of decibels well beyond that of humans. Alternative Vibrations: Communication skills via methods of emitting other varieties of sonic waves have been established over the years. Telegnosis: An unexplained means by which they can discern feelings, perceptions and thoughts of others from a distance (though not with any other species apart from their own and a small variety of insects). Gleaming: Emitting luminous hues from their being is a voluntary option for the Midg, sometimes used to illustrate strong emotion and feeling. Vamping: Pheromones, in combination with specific, low pitched vibrations and emitting of luminous hues are used in attracting, influencing and impressing prospective mates.
Genders
Female Midg are far less common than males. Males make up more than 95% of the Midg population. Aside different reproductive functions, odor and superficial masculine and feminine appearances, females are the only Midg born with the ability to produce wings for flight. The production of wings is achieved by the excretion of often luminous, metallic and highly tensile fibrils from their upper back. Wings are not involuntary or obligatory, they are produced or withdrawn at will.
Mating
Mating is… less than common, as too is the mutual, sexual attraction needed between a male and female in order to reproduce. To reproduce, a male and female unite. Literal melding of the pair will take place, the becoming of one entity, while stimulating the reproductive component of the female in the production of a duplicate that will take on various traits of each parent. Birth is achieved at the point of disconnection between the mating pair. An infant is born half the size of an adult Midg and will, over a two year span, increase structure to that of adult size.
Strengths & Abilities
Sensory: The midge can see in all direction and pick up on all known frequencies of sound. The distance of auditory observation and visual acuity varies on the type of frequency, density of matter, space between objects, and level of light. Regenerative: Midge do not bleed. When crushed, the Midg body will quickly re-establish its form. Any severed segment of the Midg form can be reattached and will fuse with its whole momentarily. In cases where the severed segment is misplaced, the body will simply generate a new one. Major regeneration is dependent of nutritional intake. Physical Prowess: On account of their bodies having the functional capability of a single muscle, the Midg can lift weights in excess of 20,000 times their own body weight, and can withstand approximately 40,000 times their own weight before being crushed. Though densely structured, the Midg are exceedingly flexible with reaction time to visual and audio stimulus far surpassing that of a human, thus allowing for fast, instantaneous responses. This supreme response time and agility also allows them to reach a running speed of 50km/h, and a jumping distance of over 10 meters under average atmospheric conditions. Endurance: So long as a Midg has optimal contact with external life, their energy level will remain at a constant.
Other Abilities
Castling: Whilst having the ease of ability to imbibe various forms of energy and other nutrients from flora, fauna and silicone matter by way of touch, the relationship between the Midg and other matter works in a symbiotic return of equal amounts of nutrition to the matter they make contact with. This process is intrinsic and constitutive, but it can, in various ways, be enhanced at will and is referred to as Castling. A simple example of Castling is as follows: By use of stored energy, a single Midg can revitalize a single flower and extend its life for many years with a single touch, at little cost to themselves. However, an opposed version of Castling, called Negative Castling, can also be achieved by extracting all life from a plant or animal to fortify their own body’s vitality for days or even weeks to come. The latter practice is rare and frowned upon by the Midg for what should be obvious reasons. While Negative Castling may sound daunting, a single Midg is unable to remove the life of anything larger than an average human in this way. Therming: The Midg’s dense and porous body can harness and convert solar energy into a concentrated form of light, propelled by sonic force to be expelled from any point of their person at the speed of sound. At maximum strength the heat of a therm (light spear) is enough to pass through several inches of stone before losing containment in an explosion that, again at maximum strength, is enough to break a large rock, or blast an eight inch hole in a man’s torso and combust much of his remaining body. Oscing: Once again, on account of their dense biological structure, Midg can, in much the same way they project speech and other communicative vibrations, enhance and focus sonic waves at an osculating measure of frequency to permanently deafen a man. At other frequencies Oscing can be focused to shatter solid matter like stones and bones. Due to a large and constant replenishing reserve of energy usually contained within their body, Midg can use these abilities for variable extensions of time without concern for depletion of energy. Nevertheless, like all natural abilities of any species, the amount of strength and power of the Midg is based on the individual. All previously mentioned applications were described on an average Midg ability basis. Furthermore, many male Midg are not born with the capacity to Therm or Osc. Despite the Midg’s power, they are a peaceful people by nature and have had little cause to use such abilities …until now.
Weapons
As they normally live in harmony with other forms of life and possess natural abilities that tend to suffice in times of danger, Midg have little use for melee or range weapons. Nevertheless, in times of unavoidable conflict, both male and female Midg have been known to take up arms in the form of swords and bows. As a note of interest, arrow and sword types are forged with a combining formula of copper or silver and more valuable metals like platinum and gold. Swords, as with many other varieties of matter, can also serve as a conductor to increase the reach and slightly enhance the power and accuracy of Castling and Therming.
Weaknesses
…. Wind and Rain tends to inhibit their efficiency. Despite thus far breaching every rule of this Role Play, the Midg can die. Like all life they need oxygen and other forms of sustenance to survive. Deprivation of these things will eventually result in death. However, a Midg generally has large amounts of reserved energy and can, alternatively, reanimate within one or two hours after death if contact with life is accomplished. To point out: Midg absorb oxygen, like all other sustenance, by way of contact, and therefore cannot be drowned in liquid unless the liquid itself lacks oxygen. In the case of oxygen deprivation, the Midg can rely on their reserves for several hours.
Tamriellah
Eighteen years ago the current reigning Queen of the Midg Matriarchy gave birth to a daughter by the name of Tamriellah. The birth of Tamriellah was greatly celebrated by all Midg throughout Akripola, not merely for being the offspring of the Queen, but also for being the first female Midg born of reigning royalty in over two-thousand years. Her unlikely extraction had her quickly revered as a prophet of Juhluh, and her future succession as queen was automatically secured. At the age of twenty-one, three years from today, Tamriellah is due to take her mother’s place upon the throne. A small description Tamriellah is considered the most beautiful of female Midg in all the land. Her body is fair and smooth as silk to touch. The fine, wavy fibril strands of her hair are blond, while the depiction of her eyes are sapphire-blue. She carries with her the scent of lilac that can be detected several feet away. Tamriellah weighs 3.5 grams, and is a staggering five millimeters in height.
