Unfortunately, it seemed that her mother traded her life for Sylvie’s in childbirth which left the young girl to be raised rather distantly from any parental figure. Instead, Sylvie found solace in an older sister whom she was very close to. The two girls lived a rather lavish and sheltered life in Paris during their young lives, though as Sylvie’s older sister grew up quite fast, she took an interest in the political turmoil that grew alongside them. She left Sylvie once she was of age to send herself off to Basic Combat Training. Between a special operative and a Senator, the Knox family didn’t live without its spectators. Sylvie’s father in particular seemed to constantly have crosshairs painted on his back. As the Parliament grew more and more unstable, Erec Knox seemed to be a consistent target of strife as one of the more outspoken politicians in France. With an intent to protect good people like her father, Sylvie’s sister found herself led to join Groupe d'intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale. She trained in GIGN with the hopes to protect her father. This only inspired Sylvie, and when she was of age, she set off to train to join GIGN just as her sister did. It wasn’t long before Sylvie’s sister came to finally understand the true inner workings of France’s current political standpoint. Sylvie’s father was himself part of the corrupt game that blighted the French government. People were bribed, extorted, threatened, and killed. Sylvie’s sister saw only one solution, and she decided that she was the only one who could take her father out of the game for good. With her sister on the run and both of her parents deceased, Sylvie lived out the last years of her youth in an orphanage. This culture shock shook her world as her once lavish life was replaced with something much less desirable. Sylvie struggled to understand all that her family had gone through and what it was all for. Even after discovering the true nature of her father’s death, Sylvie still revered her sister if only in a sort of macabre sense. She understood her sister’s cause was just, and perhaps that was the worst part of all. As soon as Sylvie was thrust out of her orphanage, she knew exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted to fight for good. Sylvie was nothing like her sister, though. She was a wild soul, and when it came to her training drills, it became evident that Sylvie’s skill was beyond that of the average Gendarmerie. Even the GIGN didn’t mesh with what she could do. Sylvie was resilient above all else, perhaps not the strongest soldier in all of the world, but certainly one of the most determined. Her acceptance into the GIGN was short lived, as Sylvie quit the program almost as soon as her training was complete. She realized she wasn’t meant to be hiding about in domestic territory. Pent up within her was a host of unresolved problems, and she could only foresee herself escaping her past if she escaped the path of her family. It was her former GIGN commanding officer that suggested her a path in the world: the Commandement des OpĂ©rations SpĂ©ciales. She enrolled in a naval training selection to see if she could make it to her newfound ultimate goal: the Commandos Marine. It was in this branch that Sylvie would spend the rest of her time while enlisted. Sylvie was always among the first to volunteer for foreign missions. When French forces were being shredded by insurgent groups in Africa, a platoon of Commandos was meant to be sent to assist in quelling an uprising in the RĂ©publique du Congo. Despite the immense turmoil racking French streets, Sylvie happily accepted that she was among those selected to mobilize. With her knowledge of the current political scene in France, she felt little to no allegiance to her country, instead only feeling camaraderie with her fellow Commandos. Upon their mobilization, Sylvie’s squad was mysteriously diverted mid-flight from their original target nearby Kinshasa. Apparently a massive guerilla attack struck out at a convoy that held the majority of French forces in the Congo. Sylvie’s squad was instructed to HALO jump to the convoy’s location where they landed right in the thick of battle in some of the Republic’s thickest swamp forests. Insurgent forces padded with a mysterious foreign aid seemed to be tearing through French forces, and most of Sylvie comrades ended up displaced, separated, or killed. It wasn’t long into the assault when Sylvie somehow lost command with her garrison in Lorient. In a last ditch attempt to survive, Sylvie fled into the Congolese jungle, losing herself amongst its dense rainforests. Personality: Sylvie is often described as extremely tactful and empathic. It was rather common for other Commandos to find solace in Sylvie as someone they could open up to. She was the sole female in her unit and often took on a role that kept everyone focused and in high-spirits. It is this feature that earned her the callsign she identifies with. This doesn’t mean Sylvie is without her own troubles, though. It is often assumed she is better at dealing with others’ problems than she is her own. Any mental complications in Sylvie’s mind tend to be thrust aside to make room for more urgent matters. Sylvie’s sense of calm tends to be her greatest feature. Rather than resorting to letting bullets fly immediately, Sylvie has a reputation for always having alternative effective solutions. Fighting directly is rarely her first resort. Cool-headed in most scenarios, Sylvie tends to be extremely good under pressure. It is actually quite rare to even see her show much emotion, even in battle. This doesn't mean a rainbow of feeling aren't flying through her head, of course. Her solemn and humorless expression often keeps morality high, but when Sylvie panics, that's when you know all has gone to hell. Sylvie seeks nothing more ultimately than control. If she can’t find control and order in her life, that is when things start breaking down. Preferred Choice of Weaponry: Sylvie’s preferred primary weapon choice is deeply rooted in her French military heritage. The HK416 is what she feels most comfortable using. In addition to that, Sylvie is also a huge proponent of diversity and versatility of the field. When her squad requires such outfitting, she is always one of the first to volunteer to carry the Benelli M3T Super 90. In terms of sidearms, the Commandos Marine always required Sylvie to carry a “real” pistol. It is because of this that she always seems to carry a Glock 19, but even that real pistol is second to her Manurhin MR 73 revolver. It is a GIGN habit that she has never dropped. In addition to all her weapons, a standard bayonet remains on her person at all times— even when she doesn’t carry her other weapons.
