Just wish it didn't literally take forever..."

At first glance, Jasmine could be seen as simply slim, but she's actually quite athletic and toned. Lessons in kickboxing have kept her fit, and while she's certainly no body-builder and no where close to that, she is by all means fairly solid. This isn't something she tends to accentuate though, as unless she's forgoing sleeves in her current outfit you'd be hard-pressed to tell she's ever worked out in her life. You're more likely to notice everything else that's going on with her look. For starters, she puts a lot of time into her hair. Her naturally brunette hair has blond highlights that mesh in well with the present color, and while her hair is naturally curly, it takes a lot of care to keep it healthy and frizz-free. Yet she also isn't a stranger to wearing beanies, whether or not she's having a bad hair day (which is almost never if she can help it). Rarely she can be seen wearing thin-framed glasses, but usually her green eyes are unobscured. Her make-up is also surprisingly light, opting only to deal with eye-shadow, her eye lashes, and lipstick. She doesn't use foundation or anything of the sort, as she doesn't believe her somewhat dark complexion needs much of anything done do it. The rest of her fashion is varied, depending on the weather and the event she's going to, but overall she dresses rather casually, if not fashionably. Jackets scarves and jeans are just as likely to be worn as shorts and T-shirts, but either way she usually pulls the look off. She doesn't really wear any jewelry though, and there aren't any tattoos to be found. Her knuckles are a bit scarred from fighting, but that's about it. Her overall demeanor appears to be of someone who's approachable and easy to get along with, yet she also comes off as too serious at times.

PSYCHOLOGY
"I'm not stubborn damn it, I'm driven."

MAIN GOAL ⫻ To protect her brother Grant at all costs. He disappeared once, and she'll be damned if she lets it happen again. PHILOSOPHY ⫻ Self-improvement is the key to getting the things she wants and needs. She feels it's the only way she can become strong enough to prevent any more tragedies in her life, and right now she still feels like she's too weak, both physically and emotionally. Whether or not she can ever reach this ideal of "strength" is another conundrum though. SECRETS ⫻ She blames herself for her brother's disappearance, as she feels like if she'd been around when it happened that she could've prevented it. However, on a deeper level, she hates how the entire situation ended up causing her to put her entire life on pause for his sake. In a way, she resents him for it despite willingly choosing to drop everything for him, and ultimately this causes her to feel that she's selfish. DESIRES ⫻ Strength, in every sense of the word. SEXUALITY ⫻ She's only ever been with guys, but experimenting with women isn't out of the question. Sex and romance isn't particularly on her mind though. FEARS ⫻ Her own weaknesses, and furthermore being unable to prevent Grant from disappearing again, if it were to happen. REPUTATION ⫻ She's fairly new to Farmer Hill, but her attachment to her brother has already been noted. She's seen as over-protective of him, but she at least appears to be friendly to everyone else. Several people may note however that this isn't her first time in Farmer Hill, if they can remember her. PET PEEVES ⫻ Disloyalty and betrayal above all else drives her up the wall. Those with a lack of common sense also annoy her, same with people unaware of social cues and ettiquette. QUIRKS ⫻ She has quite a few verbal tics; notably, she says "literally" much too often and will use it for emphashis rather than for its actual usage. When around Grant, she tends to hover around him unless he asks for some space. She also is somewhat fidgety with her bangs when trying to concentrate.

BACKSTORY
"I should've been there, but I wasn't. I won't make the same mistake again."

Jasmine was adopted into the Dwyer family when she was two years old. Her birth mother had been good friends with her adoptive mother, and so when her birth mother died of illness, her adoptive mother took action and promised to raise Jasmine within her own family in order to keep her out of the orphanage system. With no biological father in the picture and no immediate family members who lived in the area, the adoptive process was resolved rather quickly, and soon Jasmine became a part of the Dwyer family. The Dwyers had no children of their own at the time, so for awhile she was an only child. A dark-skinned child with two light-skinned parents of course was enough to grab attention from other people whenever they were in public, and definitely from other students during her school years. Her parents were never sure how to address it, as they wanted to make Jasmine feel that there wasn't an issue at all and that her adoption should be considered normal, but at the same time they knew she could feel out of place. In the end, all her parents could do was let her know that their race differences didn't matter to them, and that no matter what they would love her as their daughter regardless of whatever others thought. This continued on when Grant entered the picture, who was born when Jasmine was three years old. As they grew up, they bickered and fought and teased like siblings do, and were basically like any other brother and sister. The race difference never seemed like an actual difference to him, and whenever people would ask him about it he thought those people were weird, as it seemed perfectly normal to him. It was something Jasmine was always secretly grateful for, as even though the issue was something she'd move on from as she got older, deep down it was still something she was insecure about, and her brother helped ease that insecurity. So she was rightfully devastated when she heard that Grant had disappeared while she'd been off at college, having been accepted at Grand Ridge once she was eligible to apply.. She returned home in a hurry, guilt wracking her for leaving despite knowing there likely wouldn't have been anything she could've done if she'd stayed home. She was beyond relieved when he was eventually found a month later, yet it still felt like hollow relief, as upon his recovery it was learned that the traumatization he'd gone through had left him mute. There was no way she was returning to college after that, she knew she had to stay, and so she made a personal vow that she would never let harm come to him ever again if she could help it. She dropped everything to become fully involved with his life and become someone he could rely on. They learned sign language together in order to communicate better, and though Grant managed to pick it up faster Jasmine still kept up well enough to be able to talk with him. She picked up a job as a waitress at a local restaurant so that she could make at least a minor amount of income to help out at home. And, unbeknownst to Grant, she picked up nightly kickboxing lessons with a focus in Muai Thai, as she believed without a shadow of a doubt that he'd been kidnapped and had somehow escaped, and she wanted to be able to defend him if his kidnappers ever somehow found him again. She had been an amateur boxer during high school, having done the sport as a hobby more than anything else, so she already had some experience as a fighter as she went into kickboxing. Once Grant was old enough for college, he ended up applying at the same school Jasmine had gone to before, as they'd decided to try to go to school together. And so, she did what she could to be accepted back. Fortunately, they were both accepted, and as of now both live at the dorms at the school. Jasmine had wanted to get an apartment, but understood that Grant would want to try to become more independent. They don't share the same classes, but they still occasionally spend time together and catch up on what's been going, with Jasmine watching over him to make sure he's safe as he possibly can be. Even if things seem to be moving too fast, and he's growing into an adult right before her eyes.

SKILLS & TALENTS
"I'm stronger than I look. At least, that's what I try to tell myself."

[Brawler] ⫻ Jasmine had always been naturally scrappy as a child, but training in boxing and kickboxing has turned her into quite the physical combatant. While she isn't an expert, unless she's going up against an actual martial arts professional she'll probably win in a fight. If weapons come into play, she knows disarming techniques to even the playing field, though that isn't to say she won't use weapons herself if she needs to. [ASL] ⫻ Jasmine has learned sign language in order to communicate with Grant better. She's still learning, but she understands it fairly well and can translate accurately. [Dedication] ⫻ Grant's well-being is what drives Jasmine. She is able to do things she would never have thought possible because of her desire to protect him, and she would do anything to keep him alive and well. This drive of hers, when applied to other goals, can make her a force to be reckoned with.

ABSTRACTION
"Listen, I'm no stranger to abrupt stops. Starting up again, however..."

SIGIL & LOCATION ⫻ Located on Jasmine's abdomen is an image of a shield with two arrows crossed above it. Depending on the actions she takes, one arrow will glow while the other will not when her abstraction is in effect. When storing momentum, the shield glows. ABSTRACTION ⫻ Momentum Theft, the ability to steal a target's momentum and then apply it to a new target. ABSTRACTION DESCRIPTION ⫻ Jasmine's abstraction draws on her personal experiences of harsh, forced ends and being thrust into new beginnings. When she focuses on a moving target, both living or non-living, she can steal its momentum and cause it to freeze for exactly one second. Once the second passes, its momentum resets to whatever it would naturally have at that moment. For example, if a bullet was shot at her and she stole its momentum, it would simply drop to the ground once the second was up. While she has momentum stored, she can then give it to any other target, which will add to any current momentum it may already have, if it even has any. Momentum can be delivered in whichever direction she chooses, including the opposite direction of a target already in motion. She can only store one "charge" of momentum at a time, and cannot add on to any she's currently storing, nor can she replace it without first giving it away. IN THE PRESENCE OF THE MOUNTAIN ⫻ Jasmine can store multiple charges of momentum when near the mountain, up to a total of three, and all charges can be delivered at once to a single target if desired. She can also focus on stealing from and delivering momentum to specific parts of complicated targets, such as specific bits of the human anatomy. AURA SENSING ⫻ Jasmine can sense those who are still within a thirty meter radius, even if she is seperated from them by walls. She can also sense those who she has given momentum, at least until the momentum wears off. Just how I like it."

Grant usually appears to be perfectly normal to the average person. He has an average if not somewhat trim build thanks to staying fairly active, and has he decent a enough posture. His brown hair is kept in check with a good brushing every morning and is usually kept in the same style. He has a rather young appearance to him, partially in thanks to his height, but considering the fact that he's only 18 it makes sense, though he still has room to grow. He does rather well at physically expressing himself, as anyone could take a single look at his body language and facial expressions and be able to tell how he's feeling and the message he's trying to get across. His hazel eyes in particular display what he's thinking quite well, more often than not. He dresses very casually, and his outfits are all similar to one another and mostly just consist of different color variations of the same type of clothing. He has a preference for jeans, plaid, and jackets, but button ups suffice in a pinch. His shoes pretty much consist solely of sneakers, but he does have a pair for walking around in the outdoors. He often carries his book bag with him, even when outside of a school environment, but he actually carries useful things he may need in there. He does carry plenty of school supplies and utensils though, and is often the go-to guy when you need some spare paper or a pen. He doesn't have any piercings or tattoos, but he does have a small yet jagged scar on his back. He has no idea how it got there though or what caused it. Other than that, he looks incredibly unassuming, which is exactly the type of look he's going for.

PSYCHOLOGY
"Right, right, I'm 'traumatized'...just wish I could remember from what, exactly."

MAIN GOAL ⫻ He wants to investigate Farmer Hill and learn of its mysteries. He believes that whatever caused him to go mute is connected to this town, and the only way to recover is to discover the truth. PHILOSOPHY ⫻ Normally, he would say that he believes in live and let live, but right now he's just willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He is willing to manipulate others and make people believe he's nothing more than a pushover and a victim if it means he can gain an advantage. He isn't above forgoing his dignity either, if it ultimately can help him out. SECRETS ⫻ He is almost entirely certain that Farmer Hill is connected to his disappearance and current disability, but never told any of his family. He's only attending Grand Ridge Academy as an excuse to personally investigate the town, though of course he is still going to school and trying to gain a degree. Jasmine would never had allowed it if she knew what his true motives were. DESIRES ⫻ To discover the truth of what happened to him when he went missing, and hopefully regain the ability to speak. SEXUALITY ⫻ Gay, not that he's had any experience with either sex. For whatever reason, people often believe he isn't even interested in sex. He's mute, not impotent damn it. FEARS ⫻ Going missing once again, but this time never returning. He doesn't have an inkling of who took him, or why, and it terrifies him that it literally could be anyone in this town. REPUTATION ⫻ For the most part, he's known as the weird mute kid with an over-protective older sister. Some pity him, though he has received odd looks for his interest in the town's history. He has been known to be bluntly and bitingly honest as well. PET PEEVES ⫻ People without any patience frustrate him more than anything. People who don't just underestimate him but flat-out take him for a fool also easily annoy him as well. Also, as much as he cherishes his relationship with his sister, he hates that Jasmine basically babies him. QUIRKS ⫻ The absolute most notable thing about him is that he is mute. He isn't deaf though, and can hear just fine, he just can't speak. While he does know sign language, he often communicates by texting with his phone or simply typing responses and showing them to whoever he's having a face-to-face conversation with. He also experiences moments of dissociation while in public, but is brought out of it rather easily.

BACKSTORY
"I'll let you know the details when I figure them out myself."

Grant lived a city life in northern California for most of his years, and had a rather average life there. He had both of his parents, but only one sibling, Jasmine, who had been adopted a year before he'd been born. She teased and picked on him like any older sibling would, being that she was three years older than him, but for the most part the two got along well enough. She even beat up some older teens that were picking on him once, though she got in trouble for it. She left for college soon after graduating high school, so for about a year it was just him at home. He had a few friends, but no close relationships, so while he would never admit it he did feel lonely without his sister. But then something shattered his average life. When he was 16 years old, he suddenly vanished without a trace. Nobody knew what happened to him or where he'd gone, only that he only could had disappeared on his way home from school since his friends had last seen him during class. Jasmine returned home during this time, leaving college behind so that she could help search for him and be there with her family during this horrific time. And then after a month, as if out of the blue, Grant returned. A person walking their dog found him wandering the streets one night, seemingly in a daze and unable or unwilling to speak. After being taken to the hospital and being medically evaluated by doctors and nurses, they thankfully didn't find anything physically wrong with him other than a recently-formed scar on his back, but it was clear that he'd gone through some form of extreme psychological trauma. He'd become mute, unable to bring himself to talk despite his vocal chords being undamaged and brain scans showing that he wasn't suffering from any physical trauma. Whatever it was that had happened to him, he refused to talk about it or explain it. He would communicate with others through writing and typing through his phone, and over time he began to learn sign language, but anytime anyone tried to ask about what happened he would just shut down. His family learned not to push the topic despite being so worried about what could've happened to him, and tried to find some way to help him recover. Jasmine didn't return to college, and instead stayed at home to help care for him and support him. Their bond grew stronger as a result, and while Grant thinks that she can be over-protective at times, he's still glad that he has a close relationship with her. The reason he never spoke about what happened to him, however, is that he simply cannot remember. But in his dreams, he sees the town of Farmer Hill, the town of the college Jasmine had been attending. Strangely enough, he'd never been there as far as he knew, yet he could recall things about the town as if he'd lived there once before. The name of the town itself seemed incredibly important to him, and were the first words he tried to mouth in the hospital before he realized he couldn't speak. Research into the town proved rather fruitless except for one strange fact: a surprisingly high amount of people from that town have disappeared over the years, or worse, mysteriously end up dead. He wondered...was he a victim of that town as well then? Unlike the others who had disappeared though, he returned. Did that mean it wasn't connected, or was he just an outlier? He had no idea, but he felt the growing need to know the truth as time went by. So, when the time came to prepare for college, he applied for Grand Ridge Academy. He told Jasmine that he wanted to just go to the same school she'd once attended, and eventually that turned into a promise to attend together. Things seemed to work out perfectly, and they were both accepted. And so now, he's in that town. Strange things have already occured in the short time he's been there, so now seems to be the best time to begin his investigation. He just hopes he isn't tempting fate after apparently having been spared.

SKILLS & TALENTS
"Being silent isn't all bad."

[Stealthy] ⫻ Grant's somewhat small size and silent demeanor allows him to sneak around with ease. He's also quite nimble, so he wouldn't normally be stumbling around and making noise if he did indeed have to sneak. [ASL] ⫻ Much like his sister, Grant knows sign language but to a greater degree. He can communicate easily and quickly with anyone who can understand it, and can use it to send silent messages if necessary. [Alert] ⫻ Despite sometimes coming off as aloof, Grant is actually constantly aware of his surroundings. It's hard to get the jump on him, and he's observant enough to notice if something is strange, usually before most people would notice. [Cooking] ⫻ While he's no five-star chef, he can make food both edible and taste good. He's still steadily improving due to practice and attending culinary classes.
