Haven Online
** This is very much a work in progress, feel free to bump with interest if it catches your attention. ** 20XX- a time of innovation, creativity, human advancement in technology seeming to skyrocket into the heavens. Nearly thirty years ago Virtual Reality was making waves throughout the world assisting in a multitude of ways throughout the world. Medical technology corporations dumped millions of dollars into its development and quickly the incentive of financial success and fame pushed VR developers to push themselves and their teams to new levels. Several different media companies saw this rising fad as an opportunity to invest, fueling the flames of creation even further and in a short five years later a new breakthrough was had. Den of Dreamers was developed by a development company called [Open World Works], completely underground with no information on the company themselves and launched for free on the most easily accessible VR system the IRIS. Several popular video game streamers had seemingly known about the launch beforehand and as a large-scale event on their platforms, all simultaneously logged on together to experience it alongside their viewers. What [Open World Works] developed was not a game, but instead an interactive virtual reality experience where people could really do whatever they wanted. Dreamers would be prompted to enter their screen name, and then customize their avatar with nearly infinite assets to do so. 3D Artists could freely upload their creations to the character library, and donations or reimbursement were offered to those who did. Models and customization in the first opening hours of the game ranged in the hundred-thousands, and rarely did people feel they looked the same. There were large meetup chatrooms where dreamers could freely talk to one another, discuss things and even create within the game. It was a massive success and nothing like it had really been created before, capturing a good portion of the Earth's population in it's splendor. [Open World Works] would become overnight millionaires and nobody even knew their names. Twenty years would pass, Den of Dreamers with constant support from its consumers and anonymous developers kept up with the constant increases of technology. Led the way even. A large portion of PC games were now being ported onto newer renditions of IRIS VR Systems, and rumors of ISIS working alongside [OWW] to create an operating system that would change the world started to appear on Forums across the net. It was on January 1st of the twenty first year, that a middle-aged European man would walk onto the stage of IRIS's yearly press event. Founder, lead developer, main man of [Open World Works] Aleksander Demiter stood humble and spoke with tears of happiness streaming down his cheeks. "We are proud to announce that the ISIS Genium will run with our new operating system. It will be a fully functional Virtual Reality experience with one account for a multitude of different household needs, every website, every social media, every game, the same face will be recognized and experienced as if you were really there. We look forward to seeing your face in Haven." He turned, but immediately the audience roared in wanting confusion. Aleksander stopped in his tracks, a cheshire grin splitting acrossed his face as he paced back to the microphone. "Alongside the launch of IRIS Genium running the DOS [Dreamer Operating System], we will be launching a secret love-project that some of the greatest minds at [OWW] have been working on. When we created our company, completely independent, all of us wanted to create a world better than the one we lived in. It was the namesake of our company, to create a new world, a place where everyone of every race or gender could be who and what they wanted free of constraint. And we have worked on making that a reality since our conception, so I am pleased to introduce you to Haven Online!". And like any good company hype-man Aleksander sprinted offstage and a projector displayed the trailer for Haven Online. The trailer rolled on with a rumbling of stone as the black screen panned the camera up to beautiful open plains with-- a large volcano erupting in the distance, sending balls of fire throughout the nearby area setting those beautiful plains ablaze. Then a beautifully rendered rabbit-man riding on horseback would race into the cameras view, a staff on his back as he charged headlong into the black smoke. He'd cough as he raised the white-wooden and gold adorned staff in the air, waving it's head in a serpentine motion several times before rain clouds suddenly roared into the sky darkening it. "しゅうちゅうごうう!" Appeared above the rabbit-man's head in an uncharacteristic text block. It began to downpour, extinguishing the nearby fire but the beady black eyes turned their sights to the volcano. Then, a second horse could be heard racing closer and closer.. A human girl, dressed in flashy pink and white lolita clothing flew past the rabbit-man. She could be heard in the distance screaming in Japanese, and the rabbit would grunt sliding from his brown and black speckled horse to the ground lightly. "Just another day.." The camera would then slowly pan out above the two players, showing a dragon circling the volcano, as they got further a Neo-Tokyo like futuristic city could be seen not far from those plains, and on the opposing side a medieval looking settlement with castles and farmland nearby. The title would then slowly appear as the camera aimed towards a great blue sky filled with clouds [Open World Works - presents. Haven Online]. Haven wasn't just your typical SAO Virtual Reality MMO Clone, it was an open slate for creative minds. Artists, gamers, writers, performers, anyone and everyone whom wanted to contribute something to the world would be given the opportunity to. The world was literally endless, new continents could be created to explore if you explored the immense ones OWW released with the game. It shook the world, several companies that survived off the income of their popular online games filed lawsuits on Open World- all of which were unsuccessful. A few even turned to paying immense sums of money to hackers in an effort to ruin the game's experience for the players, futile. The giant was unstoppable and many developers decided to join the party rather than fight against it, integrating their own games into DOS. IRIS and OWW has become a superpower. The world was obsessed with these companies' products, their experiences, and it still to this day maintains itself as a global phenomenon. But there is a darkside to this happy ending. The internet has always been a dirty place, and while there can be numerous layers of security, some bad people are bound to slip through and take advantage of the immense freedoms that are now offered. [NERO] first began to appear in the social media world of DOS holding people's personal information or even their creation hostage in exchange for money. They've been terminated multiple times, but seem to reappear like a family of cockroaches, and now they're beginning to appear in Haven. Six months ago a series of kidnappings in the western Unites States occurred, all of which were non-professional female singers who posted their content in [Mekkaku] a music themed location in Haven. It was never made public, but OWW was sent ransom letters with photos of the girls asking for millions of dollars in exchange for [Your Beloved Players]. While it was paid, the developers have been under a magnifying glass for the security of those who use their software and play their games ever since.
So now they turn to you.
"To all the brilliant minds who call Haven your home. We at [Open World Works] ask for your help, we are seeking the bravest and the wisest. There are evils that trespass our paradise and seek to have it crash and burn, be it from our competitors of those who wish only to ruin this great thing we have. We are developing a new zone called the "Crossroads" and it will be the largest we've ever created. During the next three months we will be enabling a mechanic that wasn't available before. [Headhunt] will allow players reported more than fifty times to be marked as an attackable mob in the game, awarding loot, and achievements based on the severity of the notes flagged upon them. While this may be viewed as toxic, we are willing to take this risk to remove the unlikable or harmful members of these communities we have worked so hard to build."

Premise
You are players of Haven Online, each with a strong and personal drive to ensure that the game remains online. Regardless of what your reasons may be to feel so passionate about protecting the state of Haven, the developers have outstretched their hand to personally ask you to take action against the members [NERO]. Each player with individual talents that may be of effect within the game or in the real world. Whatever they may be, these elite players must work together to uncover the identity of [NERO] and any other threats they may come across as a team. This is not particularly a defeat the dungeon bosses and gear up type of VRMMO experience, instead these characters have been players for a long time and have memories and experiences already. The dynamic will instead be focused on player versus player, real-world interactions, and some crime solving.
Important Information
Stats: While not all players of Haven partake in adventuring or combat, there are a multitude of statistics on your character that factor into non-combat situations. There is no leveling system, and instead the armor, weapons, and cosmetics directly effect your avatars stats and rarer items typically have the best stats. STR - Physical Strength ; Melee Weapon Damage ; Armor Weight STA - Literal Stamina ; Health Pool ; Speed of Recuperation DEX - Motor Skills ; Eyesight ; Ranged Weapon Damage INT - Cognitive Skills ; Magic Damage ; Spell Speed WIS - Memory ; Mana Pool ; Lore Retention LUC - Literal Luck ; Bonus Loot Combat: There are no action skills in Haven, instead relying on passive skills and techniques learned in game through NPCs or quests. Magic using characters are given a spellbook with the names of actual spells and incantations that they must learn and master themselves and using their voice to cast. As the avatars are unique to the person, there is a nearly infinite amount of combat styles and magicks with more being created all the time. Avatars: The world is immense and full of people, and both are diverse. The most outstanding feature of Haven is that no two players look the same, everyone is unique and stand-alone in what their thematic motif is. There may be a couple thousand werewolf players, but some of them are Wolf Roleplayers named Redpaw looking like a generic wolf, and others are top one-hundred PvPer Grimme- a fully armored wolfman wielding two greatswords and speaking poor english. Travel: Players are able to fast travel through the use of a Home Crystal, each major city in a zone has one of these towering blue stones within their walls. However, you can not transport to a Home Crystal that you have never visited before- this encouraged players to travel to newly developed zones right away. Peter feels like he is a useless person, which can make him feel depressed at times. Because of this, he completely dives into gaming, mainly Haven Online. In Haven Online, his personality changes a lot. Because he feels like he actually has a purpose in this world, even though virtual, he becomes much more confident. This sometime leads him to become a tad cocky, which results in him making risky moves. Luckily, he has the skill and experience to make these moves a succes. Because Haven Online changes him for the better, it is irreplaceable towards him. BACKGROUND: Peter was born and raised in the Netherlands. At young age he already noticed that he didn't know what his destiny would be. Even on short term, nobody had even an idea what future had in store for him. In a way, you could say that he stood out by not standing out in any other way. He was good at gaming, but wasn't a programmer. He was creative, but wasn't into art of any kind. When he got his hands on the IRIS Genium with Haven Online, he went in with the idea he would just play another game. He would be surprised to find a new path for himself. As Peter went to explore the game, he noticed this new world made him feel different. It made him feel more confident. He started exploring all the options and found he had a talent for parkour. Something about them made him feel good about himself, maybe even if it was because he kept winning them no mather the difficulty. Though after a while, the parkours he did were getting a bit too easy. It didn't feel like any parkour was a challenge for him anymore. So instead of giving up on parkour, he made his own parkour courses. Under his pseudonym 'KingOP', he released a whole array of courses, each tested by himself, known as the 'Reach HCPK' series. They included courses of all difficulties, but they all have in common that they feel satisfying when you finish them, like you have actually accomplished something. It became a succes, and although almost nobody knows who KingOP really is, both in real life and his Haven Online username, among the parkour community he is a very well known and respected name. TALENTS AND SKILLS:

Although not used very much in real life, Peter has a very fast reaction speed, which is very usefull while doing parkour in Haven Online, especially with moving platforms. He can often be found sprawled about when not attached to his headset, practically screaming boredom. The battle that would determine who took the trophy home. 10,000 players, millions of viewers, and bragging rights for the entire year. No pressure right? Yeah right, no pressure. Max thought, adjusting his line. The loud whirring of plane motors was something of a distraction, and the incessant flak sometimes made the craft jerk, which made the task at hand difficult. Once again he attached the clip to the line above, securing it taut to his waist. He hated random selection, for the exact reason that you could get stuck with paratrooper. Not that he didn’t like the looks of them, hell, they’re fuckin badass, but for the sheer fact that you’re in a slow tin can that practically says “Hey, Come shoot me down!”. Then again, it’s better than artillery, which takes amazing skill not to blow your own guys to hell. And it also selected him for Germany. The initial controversy of dieselpunk servers began as they were erected, the word 'Nazi' still meaning something after decades. Call of Duty got it, so hey, Haven did too. Why? Maybe it was the practical realism and the fear that the game 'turns our youth in Nazis'. Man, Max never heard such bullshit in his life. Ask any player here and they'll tell you that they just came to laugh at guys, shoot at guys, and get killed by the guys they were laughing at. Hell, it was akin to football, with sportsmanship and such. You could even leave behind death messages for your killer to read, most going with the standard 'Great shot!' but some opted for the custom messages, like 'Oh dear, eviscerated again!' Max chuckled silently to himself after remembering the messages, leaning against the heavy crate of MK01 Bombs. The ranks of 100 men had to be parted slightly to two columns on either side, and as to why they were there was a complete mystery, Maybe the pilot forgot to edit his kit or something. Slight trepidation clung to his trenchcoat like glue, for a stray flak shell could easily pierce and detonate the bombs. Max was hoping the bright red light above the sliding doors would turn green, signaling to jump. ”Hey, does anyone know than one song? Blood on the Risers?” Spoke a young sounding man into his helmet’s communication system. The helmet was actually pretty neat, with an attached gasmask and neck armor, alongside an myriad of other functions. ”Yeah, why? Another voice he didn’t recognize, though somewhat older and with a subtle shift in timbre at the end; a grufness. ”Well, aren’t paratroopers supposed to sing it or something before a drop? Like some kinda ritual?” ”Aren’t we Germany though?. Interjected yet another voice. Quite rude actually. ”Your point?” ”Well it wouldn’t make sense for Germany to know an American song, let alone-” ”cmon guysh. You’re gonna ruin his EMERSHUN!” Max practically spat in his mask but delivered the joke perfectly. Adding on a fake lisp and butchering the word ‘immersion’ heavily. The response? Everyone nearly lost their shit, some having to lean against the fuselage for support. Max received several firm pats on the back and a few 'promote this guy' remarks. The noise eventually calmed and once again the rotors filled the space. Max was surprised, 10 minutes in and they weren't- A flak shell pierced the cockpit, the viscera from the pilots exploding amazingly to coat the unlucky souls whom were close enough the area. The wind ate at them voraciously, tearing men from the line and whipping them out into the great expanse of a vermillion stained sky. Thus began a great tumble of the craft and the subsequent thrashing of the men. Some unfortunate souls caught upon jagged ends of metal and were promptly impaled, the following evisceration strewing intestines like ribbons among their comrades. Max was slammed into the adjacent fuselage, dazed but otherwise unharmed, which allowed him to (with great difficulty) cut his line and be free. He crawled along the side and slashed various soldiers free, those who were alive anyway. A terrible creaking was sounding, to which they answered by slamming into the slide doors, blowing it free. He peered into the expanse, noting the faint flashes of white and the distant rumble of explosions. It was impossible to tell who was winning, so he'd have to find out himself. Max jumped through the doors and the immediate rush of wind smacked him harshly. He was tumbling at incredible speeds until he righted himself for a H.A.L.O drop. From his periphery he notice other black figures, the remaining soldiers from the aircraft; which exploded into a quite large fireball 2 seconds later. The war sullied ground was rushing up fast, too fast. Yanking his parachute cord lurched him violently upwards but slowed his descent. They would be landing in what was a forest, the once stoic oaks now mottled with bullet holes and gas stains. It would be quite depressing if anyone was paying attention to them, rather, they were focused on readying a weapon; the sturmgewhr 56. The successor to the original 44, it boasted a higher caliber at the cost of heavier weapon weight to soak up the increased recoil. Nevertheless, it was a reliable weapon and put men down in just 2 shots, maybe more, maybe less depending on how good the enemy's armour is. Max charged the bolt and leapt into the fray, the fray being stygian smoke, whizzing gunfire, mud wet with blood...
Dying somewhat late into the game(by a grenade), Max decided to head to Haven's Hub and see what was going on there. Currently, everyone was enamored within their own happenings. He goes to get it cut whenever it gets too long but otherwise it stays where it is. Maybe he’ll put a comb through it a few times if he’s feeling fancy, but that’s about it. His brown eyes have a clear, calm light to them, like a perfectly still lake. His build is thin, almost worryingly so. Wears a variety of novelty shirts and hoodies, usually with either jeans or cargo pants. PERSONALITY: What would an unlucky person do about their fate? Perhaps they would be angry, frustrated that the world seemed to dash their efforts at every turn. Perhaps they would be bitter, quietly cursing their circumstances. Or, they could be Sean, who would be laughing. From someone of his circumstances he is strangely optimistic and active. He considers himself a rather fortunate person, and does what he can to give back to those who’ve helped him. He’s cheerful in an understated way, holding on to hope no matter how bad it gets. That’s not to say he’s always happy; there are certainly things that make him sad, but he never dwells on it. It feels as if he hardly takes anything seriously, but that’s not really the case. He puts his all in anything he does, but his light and cheery personality makes it look effortless. He puts a lot of work in the background to achieve those results. Likes to explore unknown things, which is difficult given his condition. BACKGROUND: Some would say that Sean was a pretty unfortunate person, which was true enough, he supposed. He was born with a series of birth defects, fixed well enough through modern medicine, but they left lasting complications leading to a poor constitution, making aggravated physical activity difficult for him. These complications would persist for life, and even modern medicine could only alleviate the effects. The effects would lighten over time but they would never fully disappear. He would never be able to play sports properly, go hiking, climb, or travel too long. Most would consider that very unfortunate indeed, but really, was it so bad? He had a loving family, which was something rare nowadays. Besides, this was a cyber age. Even when he was young he’d developed a deep love of stories and games. He would never be an Olympic athlete, or a weightlifter, or a world-famous explorer, but he could be a knight in shining armour, a wizard with an array of powerful spells, or perhaps a cyborg enforcer, more steel than man. In a story, he could be anything. In a story, he was happy. That was why, when Haven Online first appeared, he felt he had no choice but to enter that world. In it, he could finally break free of the chains he’d held his entire life, and he would eventually find himself spending quite a lot of his time inside that wondrous world. TALENTS AND SKILLS: Creativity and time, and that’s all he needs. The iron train, the unstoppable force, the mighty Juggernaut. Or Juggs, for short, though he mostly goes by Sean. An imposing avatar by any standard, standing 7 feet tall, clad in the heaviest armour Sean could possibly find. To create Juggernaut In Haven Online he copied one of the most intimidating figures from a video game created long ago. He has what many would consider a troll build, but it can be very effective given the right scenario. And more importantly, it’s quite fun. A large humanoid race combined with heavy armour that confers the best stamina, a towering shield with the absolute defence, and a massive steel lance to sweep and shatter the enemy throng makes Juggernaut a memorable figure, and a relatively famous member of the community, though its fearsome appearance belies Sean’s indominable cheer and chivalrous demeanour. As the charge begins, the user builds [momentum], the combined force of the user’s weight and speed. The user’s speed increases during the charge. At 10 seconds the user goes at 1.5 times the normal speed. At 20 seconds, 3 times, and the user is no longer able to be stopped by movement impairing status effects. At 40 seconds, 4 times, up to a cap of 5 times the user’s normal speed at 60 seconds. When encountering an obstacle, [momentum] is directed into the object as damage. Should the damage be sufficient to move or destroy the object, some [momentum] is lost and the user loses speed to compensate. If the object is destroyed, the user is refunded for 50% of momentum spent. The charge stops when the skill is cancelled or [momentum] becomes 0.
Indominable Steel Heart Cooldown: 3 minutes An active skill with a passive component that grants a 35% increase in resistance to mental debuffs. She has a pale skin tone, which unfortunately burns rather easily. She is slim and obviously puts in regular workout to stay fit, strong and healthy. Her hair is naturally black and thick, and Elaine has it cut short, so it falls just below her ears, which gives her a slightly boyish look. She will often fasten her bangs to the sides with plain black hair-clips. Her eyes are a very curious combination of light brown and dull green, and up-close, small almost golden flecks seem to be mixed within. Elaine prefers to dress for comfort and whenever she bothers with make-up, it’s usually very light. She likes T-shirt and jeans, but also has several dresses, a collection of fine, soft and elegant shirts and a couple of jackets to go with them to pull off a semi-formal look if needed. All of her bras are a comfy sports model, but sometimes she still shucks it off at home, puts on a tank-top and hoodie, and usually wears a pair of sweatpants, leggings or shorts alongside. PERSONALITY + Ardent + Curious + Loyal + Fun-loving + Determined - Socially awkward - Blunt - Vindictive - Stubborn - Impulsive Elaine is an introvert with the occasional outbursts of extraversion. It takes a long time for her to get familiar with someone, but as she does so, she will gradually begin showing them the more outgoing part of her personality. Online she dares more due to the anonymous nature of the environment. She prefers not to lead, but if the situation calls for it, she will step up to it and put her all into it, and this has seemed to work out alright so far. She isn’t afraid to call people out if they do or say something she perceives as wrong and doesn’t shy away from being confrontational if that’s what it takes. Elaine tends to be blunt and the hardest thing for her is connecting with new people, which has made her circle of friends a relatively small one. She does like social situations, but once she reaches her limit, she gets rather moody and usually moves to a quiet corner or goes home before souring it for everyone. She appreciates her alone time and doesn’t take too well to having it interrupted. BACKGROUND: Elaine was born as the only child of her parents, the tree of them a normal middle-class family, well off enough to be able to afford most things which are considered essential for a good life. As far as she remembers, she’s always had a harder time making friends or chatting to strangers compared to others. She did well enough academically. The fact that she is such a good close-range DPS in Haven today is due to a string of certain random events. Her mother was once on a friendly outing with some of her other classmates’ mothers, and one of them suggested enrolling the children in a 3-year long program, which would supposedly impart them some basic knowledge about staying safe as a citizen. Most agreed, Elaine’s included. And so, the elementary-schoolers learned about digital safety, various relevant organizations and how and when to contact them, and even physical self-defense. After the program’s end, some of the kids continued with some media-related classes, but Elaine was one of those who enjoyed the more active part, and so convinced her parents to be enrolled into one of the several martial-arts classes available. Though honestly, back then Elaine did it because she enjoyed anything sports-related and thought it was cool to learn how to fight, even if she would likely never use it. She occasionally went to a competition, but was no prize fighter just yet. The thing that got her into gaming herself was a friend recommending a stream to her, and from there on, she developed enough of an interest to try out several games. What really inspired her, in more ways than one, was when she heard Haven online being announced. Maybe it was unnatural, existentially questionable or the opposite of how it should have been, but it was gaming, Haven online in particular, which re-energized her in real life too. The virtual reality truly felt limitless, and even combat was somehow much more fun (partly because there was no pain sensation, partly because one could do some truly ridiculous things, especially with higher stats, and partly because getting loot was a really nice bonus). Elaine was suddenly motivated to take her martial arts classes more seriously and initially went with the pure fighter route online. When she eventually wanted to spice things up, she added the spells to go along with it and in the following years, this got here to where she is now. Before making her own guild, she was the kind of a player who sought out mostly opportunistic one-time groups when the situation called for it. But she managed to befriend a fellow martial artist, who cajoled her into making a guild, and together with some other enthusiasts, they built it up and nowadays enjoy the minor fame that comes from being part of a recognizable guild. Magic damage and precision gain a very significant boost from strength instead of being tied only to intelligence. However, the mana pool is still locked to wisdom. A higher familiarity with a spell also tends to adapt it to the user’s combat style (e.g. instead of the original long-range one direction lightning strike with a chance to stun, the spell follows the intended path of an attack – such as a kick or punch – and has a chance to cause a debuff like “Crippled” depending on the hit area). *Users of this ability cast spells with their (avatar’s) body instead of with a mage weapon. Incantation Shortcuts Since long chants can be rather inconvenient if not outright impossible to manage during a close-quarter melee fight, In-Short reduces cast time by converting the original chant to a shorter string of keywords. The longer the original spell, the longer will its shortened form be. Regardless of stats, each spell will take practice to master in its new (shortened) form. Due to the nature of this ability, it still makes the most sense to search for high-powered spells but with short chants. Vampiric Drain This is an ability which can (be chosen to) trigger when inflicting burst damage on an enemy (a high crit which is foreseen to finish off an opponent will activate it automatically, if available). The activation of this ability will split the damage so that it’s dealt to both the enemy’s health and mana (instead of just their health) and will transfer the amount taken to the user of this ability. Vampiric Drain is restricted in use to a maximum of three times per enemy during a single period of combat. Cursed Fangs An ability which triggers when the user bites an enemy, leaving them with a curse. The curse applies a poison and bleeding type effects, slowly damaging the enemy for a while. A Special version of Vampiric Drain can be used once per combat on anyone marked by the curse. This Special version functions as a long-range curse-type spell and drains health and mana in DOT style (i.e. transfers them from the enemy to the user in increments). The Cursed Fangs effect can be lifted by the right kind of ability, which can also remove the DOT Drain (if active) from the person and the Special will be considered used for this round of combat. Cursed Fangs is restricted in use for a maximum of six times per combat phase (regardless of the number of opponents) and can be used only twice on the same target (per combat). -- INVENTORY:

Immortal's armor set: A high-tier armor set with good offensive and defensive bonuses.
