He grew bold in his childhood home amongst the mountainous ranges surrounding his homeland, learning the ways of the sword from his family, in line with their honorable traditions. Like many of his kinsmen Corbric joined a mercenary regiment at a young age, and was well proclaimed for his skill and dedication. He was a determined man, even in his youth and low ranking, and this was noticed by his superiors. When the Church of the Light called upon the best of Swiss mercenaries to bolster their defenses in the Holy City, Corbric was one of the first to answer the call. Rumors were spreading of dark times to come, and Corbric could think of no better place to serve his calling then amongst the ranks of the Papal Guard. Alas as he grew swiftly in skill, rank, and prestige but even so he deteriorated morally, growing lax and greedy, mired in corruption and self-indulgence. His own decadence became his undoing, and now he is a forsworn of the Papal Guard for the Church of the Light, and a broken man because of it. He has grown bitter, cold, and violent, and though he still retains the old bark of command and mental sharpness, his manner of good natured forgiveness and cheer has all but vanished. His face has become gaunt and pale, and his eyes remain haunted by his personal demons. The horrors of purgatory has wrought him a chiseled body, and though he still stands tall, and speaks boldly Corbric’s very nature is torn by shame, which weighs upon him like an iron yoke.
Cardinal Sin
There in the glory of his post and rank, with his word of honor and sense of duty binding him to remain ever vigilant, money lent him to look the other way. Indeed, where naught could slip, nor batter, nor break past the sharp eyed falcon who guarded the pathways to heaven, gold succeeded. Greed is what broke the city of Rome, cast it into the fires of the ravaging army and smote down the brave men who sought in vain to protect it. Never in his wildest dreams did Corbric Elgebar anticipate the sacking of Rome and the devastation of the Holy Church of Light be brought about by his actions, or more accurately, inaction. He fought side by side with his men straight unto death, as Captain of the Swiss Guard he stayed until all others fell, and he could fight no more, until his heart beat its very last. But it was not enough to gain penitence for his disgraceful actions. When the purse of golden coins hit his desk, and the simple message requested only that he leave the little eastern water gate unguarded Crobric, to his everlasting torment, complied. After all, only smugglers used the water gates, and this wasn’t the first occurrence of a bribe and request passing his desk. Corbric did as he always did, adjusted the schedule of the guardsmen and promptly forgot of the incident. Until the morn of the following day when the forsaken armies stormed the western approach and barracks and slaughtered there two hundred of Corbic’s loyal men in their beds. By then it was too late, and the remaining one hundred and eighty-nine formed a desperate last defense on the hill top, until all were dead to the last man. The corruption of one man, the greed of one, cast down the city of the light in flame. Forever was, and will be his eternal shame, Captain of the Guard, Corbric Elgebar.
Disadvantages

Eternal Shame – Cursed to never truly die by blade or poison Corbric is forced to bear the yoke of his greatest shame. It cripples him, both mentally and physically torturing his soul and weakening his body.
Dishonored, Forsworn – His name stained, and the honor of his station blackened by his terrible failure, Corbric suffers the life he deserves. Many who do not know of his tale would consider Corbric a coward for surviving the battle for Rome. Those who know of the terrible truth deem him instead a traitor to his Corps and an oath breaker to the Church of the Light. Neither serve Corbric well in gaining allies or friends.
Katagelophobia – In light of his sullied history, Corbric is terrified of anyone speaking truth to his past, and cannot hope to function under the scorn and public ridicule accompanying such an intrusion of his dark antiquity.
Distrust In All and Self – Corbric cannot trust himself to not repeat his mistakes once more. He is convinced, that repentance and death’s mercy are all that can save him from betraying his oath yet again. Dread strikes deep at his heart and soul, and he fails to trust himself or any others, to remain loyal in the face of temptation.

Advantages

Tactical Insight – Once the commander of the Papal Guard, and an elite warrior Corbric is well versed in the ancient art of waging war and battle, in both the macro and micro. He has keen awareness of combat situations, and how to properly respond.
A Guardsman’s Eye – Affectionately dubbed the Falcon at the Gate, Corbirc was well known in his years standing watch and otherwise for being near impossible to sneak past or dupe. This talent makes him difficult to surprise, and leaves him acutely aware of his surroundings.
