The merchant hadn't been aware of the mute male's presence and was initially surprised to see him there, but he didn't exactly jump out of his skin. Once they made eye contact, Ren had started signing - a little bit slower and his actions were a bit more basic. Or at least the first one was. It was a show of gratitude. It also helped that Ren was mouthing the words. Giving him a smile, he nodded. "Wouldn't have felt good if I just left you guys to die you know?" He bit back the next remarks of - 'Even if nothing came from it'. He was pretty sure that his 'good man' title would go down the drain. As he was questioned about the gems, he shrugged, crossed his arms and looked back at the gems with a confused expression on his face. "I have no idea." He replied while shaking his head. Yes, Gabriel hated not knowing something but he can't do anything if he has no context. He reached over to tap the gem but nothing happened. He took a deep breath and stepped back once more. "I'd think it's connected to the catacombs and-" He was cut off when Corc struck the door and he was pretty sure he heard Fauve scream for Corc to not do it. There were the obvious reasons why: One, it was a trap. Two, it wouldn't work. Three, it was a trap. But, the door gave way under Corc's brute force. Gabriel looked towards the entrance and then the ground began shaking. It wasn't big enough to make him fall onto the ground, but it was enough to send some loose bricks off. Then, there was an ice cold wind that blew from the catacombs and towards them. It sent a tingle down his spine and that itching feeling of someone watching them didn't disappear. He took a deep breath and then placed his hands inside his pockets. He looked back at the obelisk he had been observing and noticed that the gem had stopped changing colors. Interesting. Did that mean something? Probably something bad really. Almost nothing was good when you're going down catacombs. "Huh, interesting. Wonder if that means whatever's down there knows we're going inside." Gabriel asked out loud, to no one in particular though. He looked around to see that every single gem had stopped changing colors and he took it upon himself to remember the coloring of the gems on each obelisk. He then chuckled to himself. "They probably heard the door coming down so there's no need to worry!" He exclaimed anyway and then began walking forward, but didn't enter the catacombs. He looked back at the others, beckoning them to go. Rune Magicians always went second after all. Perhaps Corc would be ideal to have in front, or maybe Jack - who he now just noticed was there - because they could take a hit. Probably. But they should also be observant. Hm, whatever. Whoever went first, he would follow.
