Honestly I'd be good with going down the Crusadermon route instead if the dragons are going to be an issue. 

Something like MetalKoromon>Kapurimon>Kotemon>Gladimon>Knightmon>Crusadermon. It actually goes better with his personality and speech patterns, upon looking into it. What do you think?
