It is the sweet nectar of life itself, acting a cradle for the natural evolution and emergence of complex organisms. All lifeforms, excluding those created at the whims of the Gods, are children of the oceans, rivers, lakes, and rainstorms that nurture their lands and bring unto them boundless food and hydration. Krosus is an envoy and speaker of Water, for he knows that his domain (for now) cannot encompass the entirety of water. As established, all life comes from the ocean, but there is a specific area of the vast oceans from which the strangest, most powerful fruits of evolution muster - the Abyss. In the deepest fathoms of the seas, where sunlight cannot intrude, the Deep King Krosus lurks in the dark. He is worshiped by sailors and seamen as the guardian and keeper to the Recipe of Life, as well as a 'watcher' for the seas. Some believe that when a great storm is quelled over the seas, it's the work of Krosus stirring in the depths below. Men and God alike cannot hope to know the many secrets of reality that Krosus holds in his abyssal kingdom - those that try to breach the darkness incur the wrath of the Deep King. The embodiment of the unknown, that which mankind fears the most. He frequently undertakes actions that make little sense to his divine brethren, and his relationship with his followers and disciples is tenuous, as he leaves his messages cryptic and mysterious on purpose, but his followers believe that Krosus imparts the secrets of the Abyss to those who are worthy. Those who cannot understand Krosus are instead driven mad by his vague prophecies and commandments, going insane from trying to understand the Watcher's teachings. It's not uncommon for a mortal to turn into gibbering madmen after seeing Krosus in their dreams, or constantly seeing his reflection when they look into a body of water. Despite jealously defending his Abyss from nosy intruders, Krosus values intuition, curiosity and bravery above all else. He expects his followers to be able to "read between the lines" and have the courage to venture into the unknown for the sake of finding truth among lies. A little insanity is needed for that kind of courage - daredevil sea captains and explorers, exiled scientists, misunderstood artists, and so-called 'heretics' and apostles of other faiths lend themselves to Krosus. Men and women who have been called mad and foolish for their ideas flock to Krosus in order to evolve their mind past the limitations of faith, law or morality. As for his relationship with other gods, Krosus tends to stay out of conflict unless it threatens his secrets or his domain within the deep sea. His moral compass is either nonexistent or warped past the point of understanding, as he seems to react to the aggression or atrocities of other gods in many different ways. He is most certainly not above unleashing his wrath to those who attempt to provoke him or uncover his secrets. The watcher's unpredictability makes him a hard ally.
Gᴏᴀʟs
Krosus’ only goal, as far as the rest of the pantheon knows, is to defend the world’s abyss from outsiders and preserve the Recipe of Life. He seeks to banish the influence of other gods upon nature by influencing the ebb and flow of the seas. His true goals are as ambiguous as his personality, but based on his subtle messages and prophecies, he wishes to prepare his followers for a coming storm. By daring his followers to ‘breach the darkness’, Krosus intends to create a caste of enlightened individuals who will come to understand the secrets of life and divinity. In time, these enlightened mortals can rise to become the gods and kings of a new world order. Krosus believes that once the current gods eventually drown in their own decadence, there will be a new generation to supplant them. A generation birthed by the sea and her secrets.
Aᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ
The abyss is a largely unexplored concept, so the followers of Krosus cannot make an assured decision on the gods likeness. His actual, physical appearance may be much larger and more sinister than what mortals and other gods typically see, but to date, Krosus takes on a form of a large, bulky humanoid clad in some sort of deep-sea suit. It’s hard to tell exactly what the suit looks like, as Krosus is almost always seen shrouded in a rolling mist. A set of whipping tentacles protrude from his back, sometimes being depicted as a type of wings and other times being separated and erratic. In large bodies of water, the jarring light of Krosus’ helmet can be seen shining from beneath the surface, but vanishes as soon as something gets too close.
