It's kept running by the indigenous people, the Seeg [i](Art by Casey Parkhurst. They have agreed to offer their technical services and goods for respite and trade, and the city had become a sprawling spaceport. On Terersg, the sand would burn holes in bare feet. Each grain worming its way into the flesh. The oversized sun hung red in the sky, staring. A grim weight that everyone could feel press into their flesh and pull out some essential water. All manner of creatures wore robes or held thick hides to ward from the Sun, and the occasional sandstorm. Stalls and simple buildings were set up as far as the eye could see, in part for the owners to sell their goods and in part for their owners to be out of the Sun. But above all the markets loomed a great beast of heat and steel. It sat with its mouth open wide, and the rest of it underground. Most of it had been scrapped long ago, but the mass water condenser and the life support systems were both fully active. It was a great honor to maintain these systems. It provided shade at day and heat at night, as the insulating panels needed to break through an atmosphere were still in place. The systems provided food, water, means to grow and produce more. Life grew out from these ships, and within they were part farms, part temples. By a twitch of luck, this once small settlement had become a claustrophobic spaceport. Ships were squatting on the ground wherever they found room, placed as haphazardly as the market stalls. Between them, they had colours enough to fill the entire visible spectrum. They left as often as they came, leaving holes all through the markets that quickly filled with ships, people, stalls, or make-shift structures. There seemed to be no limit to the amount of beings here. A type of professional courtesy among travelers seems to be the only type of law and order here. As most do not want to be on the planet any longer than they have too, the criminal element is quite low.
