Name: Avicus “Poltergeist” Antema Race: Vampire (Formerly human) Age: 29 (appears 24) Gender: Male Archetype: Adept/Shaman Equipment: Avicus’ main form of combat is his steel sword that he named Raven’s Edge, the size of which is about 40 cm. In case of emergencies, he also has a small pistol, the Streetline Special, stashed in a small compartment in his cybernetic arm. The gun is small and very light so it doesn’t pack that much firepower but the size and convenience make up for that. Surprisingly, this tiny gun has a magazine of 6 bullets. Arguably one of his more important items is the gas mask that covers his face. It works like a normal gas mask should and has tinted lenses and works more as a mask to protect his face from sunlight than as an actual gas mask. Cybernetics: His entire right arm has been replaced by a cybernetic one developed by Ares. This arm has a blade inside of it that ejects from the top of the arm, a little bit behind the wrist. This arm is extremely useful by allowing him more combat options when fighting in the sunlight. Abilities, spells, etc.: Powerblade and Manablade - Spells that Avicus uses to enhance the two blades he already uses rather than create blades. In the variation the magical part of the blade extends past the normal one by several inches as well as enhances the power behind his attacks. Powerblade is the physical version with Manablade being the magical variation. Mana Static - Avicus creates an effect that stops magic in an area around, including for the caster themself. His most common use for this spell is to stop the spells of foes who primarily rely on their magic in combat, allowing Avicus to get the upperhand in a battle. Chaos - Produces a storm of conflicting sensations and images to confuse the senses. Chaos also has the capability to affect technology. Catfall - Gives Avicus the ability to slow down the fall of himself or a target to avoid getting injured from a fall. Astral Perception and Projection - Astral Perception allows the user to not only look into the Astral realm, but also become “dual natured” meaning that Avicus is present in both the Astral and Physical plane. Astral Projection allows him to project his Astral self and move outside of his own body, although his Astral body is unable to interact with the physical realm. Unique skill: Disrupt - The spell given to him by his totem, the Adversary. This spell does as its name implies and disrupts the mana in a spell. This causes the spell to react unpredictably and a random effect ensues. Vampiric abilities - In addition to the magic and swordsmanship that Avicus has at his disposal, he also has powers from his vampiric infection. These include enhanced senses, immunity to age, poison and disease, regeneration and the ability to transform into a black mist. These abilities come with some substantial weaknesses. This includes an “allergy” to sunlight where he can not go into the sun at all, a severe weakness to wood and silver as well as a severe aversion to garlic. He also suffers from chronic essence lost which can only be fixed by draining the life essence of other beings through their blood. Those who survive the draining of blood are often infected by the same virus as the vampire and become one as well. Vampires also cannot eat regular food as they become sick within the hour and the effect is increased with alcohol. Finally, a vampire goes into Induced Dormancy if cut off from air, causing them to sleep indefinitely until exposed to air again where they wake up within a minute. Personality: After his transformation into a vampire, Avicus started to become more cold and distant. Embracing his killer instinct. And has developed an intense hatred of mages due to the atrocities that have been committed against him. Though joining up with the rest of the group and breaking his isolation, there was a slow return to his old personality. His cocky side has begun to show itself more often, he is overconfident in his own skills and fighting ability. Though he has his reasons to be with the experiences he had. Back in his days leading a gang, Avicus picked up an odd habit of overdramatizing his abilities. He was known for his showmanship before defeating his opponents. Fortunately this habit has died down for the most part, though it still shines through occasionally. The thing that has remained through the years is his sense of loyalty to those he runs with, and always repays a debt. He will stay by the side of those in this group even if one or two of them is a mage, however reluctantly. Bio: Originally born in America, Avicus Antema grew up living a fairly simple life with his parents. That is until he discovered his totem spirit, the Adversary, at the age of 14. Or as many people refer to this spirit, Satan. Having the embodiment of chaos as your mentor spirit isn’t good for your reputation and this disconnect from the people of his community are what led to his descent into the criminal underworld. Apparently having a totem that symbolizes rebellion is a great way to earn street cred and instill fear in the hearts of those who don’t quite understand the extent of its power. Avicus used this to his advantage in the way of commanding respect from others through intimidation. After a few years of living as a criminal Avicus was the leader of his own gang, the Nightingales they called themselves, and was something of a local legend under the nickname Saber. With his custom-made sword that he affectionately named the Raven’s Edge and the power of the Adversary which he played up almost theatrically he was a force to be reckoned with. After spending several years of his life as a street thug, Avicus had his life change almost in an instant at the age of 24. It was supposed to be simple, Avicus and four of his best men were going to capture a supply shipment. Very few guards, very little equipment. It should’ve been a walk in the park. What the crew didn’t account for was a little interference from Aztechnology. Blood mages were not something that the Nightingales were prepared for and before long every single one of them fell. The only survivor, even if just barely, was Avicus. The next month of Avicus’ life was spent held captive by blood mages having his blood extracted to be used as a source of mana by Aztechnology blood mages and being used for the occasional experiment. One such experiment involved the Human Meta-Human Vampiric Virus, or the HMHVV, which transformed Avicus into the creature of the night that he now is. Those blood mages were hoping for the perfect opportunity to study a Vampire up close but let’s just say that Avicus used his powers to take the ‘blood’ out of ‘blood mage.’ Avicus escaped from his imprisonment but his life could never be the same again. He discovered that the Nightingales were overthrown without him, he knew he had no family who would accept him in this state. He had no one. The only thing he did have was a grudge against mages. This is what led him to his next stage in life as an assassin. Taking down targets not for money, but for vengeance. People working for Aztechnology, magic users who used magic for their corrupt desires, all his targets were claimed by the shadows. And by taking out those in positions of power Avicus managed to appease his totem spirit by causing chaos so it was a win win. 3 years into the assassin gig Avicus had a somewhat sudden change of pace after a mission gone wrong. Someone managed to track down the shadow that was Avicus, and use his secrets to their advantage. The target was on the ground, the tip of a blade to her throat. A smirk spread across her face. With the snap of her fingers a bright light shone across the entire room, a UV light. Avicus barely escaped with his life, let alone his arm which hung limply from his body, burned and mangled from the light. He managed to pull himself into a back alley before passing out. No one is sure how long he stayed there till he was found, but the woman who discovered his unconscious body was none other than Vanessa. Owner of a cybernetics clinic and Fixer for a group of Shadowrunners. She drug him back to her clinic and replaced the mangled right arm with a cybernetic one that she had on hand. She essentially saved his life, and for this Avicus was grateful. He wanted to repay her kindness in some way and thus, he was indoctrinated into a group of Shadowrunners.
