Having an NPC to smooth over an initial meeting and keep it from devolving into a bunch of "who are yous" and "what's all this about," as well as assuage the questions and worries of the lest trusting characters, makes it easier to establish them as a "group," if that's what they're meant to be.

Fair enough. This is a lot different from the last Zelda RP I was involved in where we all went in a well to save a princess (a link to the past has a great hook for a RP, all fans agree). Wait a second. Does this mean [b][i]Agahnim[/i][/b] is the King of Hyrule?!
