Well, not the paladins of Charlemagne. A wild and rowdy bunch, who despite being a lawful organization who sought to uphold the law of their lord, still found themselves causing trouble. For Roland, he was their leader, and often set an example on the kind of madness that was accepted. He fell in love too easily. He would often propose to any woman of remarkable beauty, and despite many rejections, he always tried again. In truth, he found men and woman both beautiful, and rumors of him and Oliver had spread even amongst the other Paladins. In truth, Roland was brave beyond bravery, but Oliver was his resting stone. Insurmountable wisdom to hold him in place. The two could be said to be inseparable, and Roland often relied too heavily on the wisdom of Oliver to help him when his reckless nature took hold. In practice though, Roland is rather experimental. His resounding bravery makes him willing to try anything. Be it food, a weapon, a kind of exercise, or even sexual activities. Roland wishes most dearly to serve a lord, as he is a paladin for a cause. In truth, he would probably use his wish to bring Charlemagne back, so that he could possibly fight alongside his lord once more. Bio: Roland is the paladin leader of the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne. Recognized as one of the more popular and renowned of the Paladins, he is famed for being the wielder of Durandal that he received from Charlemagne. Roland was said to have fallen in love with the beautiful queen Angelica, but she rejected the idea of falling in love and eloping with a "mere soldier" out of her pride. This caused Roland to go mad, throwing off all his clothes and rampaging around while nude. During his rampage, Astolfo and the other Paladins worked hard to capture him. Astolfo notably dressed as a woman during the episode, wearing such clothing to calm and appease Roland. Astolfo eventually brought him a bottle of reason from the moon and restored his sanity. When Roland was eventually on the verge of death in battle, he made an attempt to break Durandal to keep it from falling into enemy hands, but its indestructible nature did not allow for that. The sword appeared in various other legends revolving around Charlemagne, and it eventually became a symbol of Roland's bravery. Weapon: Roland wields many weapons, but the one most attached to his name and legend is Durandal. His armor is considered remarkable, and difficult to pierce, but has no particular legend attached to it. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Parameters: Strength: B Endurance: B+ Agility: C Mana: D Luck: C _________________________________________________________________________________________
Class Skills: - Magic Resistance B: Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected. - Riding B: Roland possessed the horn of a unicorn, and it was often said of him that he could tame any beast that crossed his path. Should he be summoned as a Rider, he would possess an A in this rank. Personal Skills: - Bravery B+: Roland was the bravest of Charlemagne's paladins. And while he failed to destroy his blade Durendal, the mere idea that he would try such a thing even as he lay dying is a testament to his unfaltered bravery. As a servant, he is unaffected by any kind of mental pollution or mental effects that may work against him. Others around him will feel an immediate burst of energy, and share in his bravery if they are his allies. - Guardian Knight C: As leader of the Paladins of Charlemagne, it only makes sense for a leader to defend others. Sitting at the rear guard and protecting those he cared for, Roland power bounces up when he is protecting another, or guarding a location. As long as there is something for him to protect, he benefits from a sudden jump in defensive power, that fades gradually over time. - Battle Continuation A: Roland's final action in life was a staggering blow on his Olifant, and while it finally killed him he had been fighting for a long time before then. In truth, his ability to commit such an act at all shows that he is a survivor of mortal wounds, and only the action of killing himself could put him down. As long as a decisive blow does not kill him, Roland cannot be put down or weakened. - Song of the Paladins A: Roland's courage was ever infectious. While a powerful servant, his courage only grows the longer a battle goes on, as glory increases with the length of great duels. As such, the longer a battle continues, the greater he becomes. His combat power increasing with the time he is in battle, and further more when he is wounded or takes a hit. In short, finish the fight quick, or lose in time.
_________________________________________________________________________________________ NOBLE PHANTASMS
Title: Durandal: Ultimate Unbroken Hallow Rank: A+ NP Type: Anti-Fortress Range: 1-99 Maximum Number of Targets: 750 Description: Durandal is the holy sword favored by Roland and one of the many Noble Phantasms he possessed in life. Originally the sword of Hector, he converted it into the spear Durindana, and after it later lost its features as a spear, it became Durandal. It was then later said to have been granted to King Charlemagne of the Frankish Empire by an angel before being awarded to Roland. It is noted as the symbol of the Battle of Roncevaux Pass told of in the Song of Roland. Although Roland attempted to break the sword when he was on the verge of death to keep it from falling into the hands of the enemy, it proved to be impossible; it was later prominently featured in Charlemagne's legends, acting as a symbol of Roland's bravery. The sword is a splendidly forged "symbol of power" much like King Arthur's Caliburn, and it is said to hold three miracles within it. It will not lose its sharpness even should its user's magical energy be depleted, proving indestructible even when Roland tried to destroy it. Should it be desired as a mere blade, Durandal can channel the strength of Roland's will into it. A powerful beam of supposedly divine energy, as if coming from god reaching down to touch the blade himself. The force can be compared to that of Arthur's own blade Excalibur, but noticeably less. As it would require a miracle to match the power of Excalibur. Which the blade possesses three of. The three miracles in the blade are considered some of the greatest. Allowing Roland to cheat the odds up to three times, and his wish being fulfilled no matter what. In short, they can be considered in much the same way a command mantra is, except as they are accomplishing miracles, much greater. As a blade of miracles, the sword is stronger against servants. Servants who are struck with the blade will take extra damage, as the wounds will be deeper and more painful than they might have been otherwise. When all three miracles are spent, this additional damage is lost. Title: Olifant: Roaring Heavens and Breaking the Sky Rank: C+ NP Type: Anti-Army Range: 1-30 Maximum Number of Targets: 200 Description: The horn of a unicorn that Roland hunted in India. He tracked the beast for several days, and once he had slain it, he took the horn as a prize. Hollowing the horn out into a trumpet, he carried it into battle with him to inspire courage in his allies, and fear in his enemies. But in time, at the battle of Roncevaux they were overwhelmed by enemies. Roland refused to call for aid, and when he finally gave into Oliver's demands, the battle was already lost. He took the horn to his lips, and failing to destroy it and Durandal, he blew the horn. The force behind his bellow caused his temple to burst, killing him instantly. As a noble phantasm, he can use this as a powerful area burst. With it, he creates a shockwave of force capable of knocking other servants and projectiles away. It inspires fear, and those who lack bravery or madness skills may be driven away in panic. Any servant or mage who is struck by the force of the blow will have to make a MAN check, or they will be driven away in fright. Those who aren't driven away will have their stats reduced drastically. But the Noble Phantasm has a second ability, locked till the moment of his death. His death itself being the noble phantasm. Should he die, the blasting force of his horn will signal one last time, inspiring others, and filling his killer with a dread so tangible they can feel it. The force far greater than any before. His killer will be marked, drawing the attention of all allies still standing. If he was a rider, he'd have access to his loyal mount Veillantif as a noble phantasm. In France he'd have access to another Noble Phantasm called "To give a Roland for an Oliver."
