The suit comes with a closed helmet equipped with filters. She grew up surrounded by machinery, visiting a planet for the first time on her 23rd birthday. The surroundings and her mother’s profession led her to engineering and engines, gyroscopes, general electronics and life support became her life, quite literally when it came to the last item on the list. Rapidly growing bored of civilian life and her control freak of a mother, she tried to join the military, but failed physical tests. Undeterred, the young engineer sought out Harris Fairchild, captain of a mercenary ship called Irene that’s just been through hell and needed to replenish its crew. Although the Irene’s activities often tested the line between lawful and lawless, Astrid gained a lot of hands-on experience as the Irene’s sole engineer, kitbashing her way out of trouble on numerous occasions. Sadly, fortune wasn’t in the stars for Irene’s crew, as their last employer had no intent of paying them, instead turning his weapons on the smaller ship. Outgunned and unable to flee due to EM interference caused by the nebula they were meeting in, the Irene made her final stand, using its superior maneuverability to overpower its opponent. Although they’ve come out on top, the cost was catastrophic - the Irene was crippled, stranded in the nebula and most of the crew perished as a result of decompressions and failing life support. In a stroke of heartless survival instincts, Astrid sealed the relatively undamaged engineering section, pumping as much air as she could to it, dooming anyone that may or may not have still been alive. With dwindling air supply and unable to repair any life support systems, Astrid activated the distress beacon and waited. A passing patrol received the call and hauled the semi-conscious Astrid out, but mistook the Irene for one of the many pirate ships that roamed that sector. With her experience and without anything that would prove her innocence, Astrid was sent to the Monroe. Personality: Astrid is practical, straightforward and tends to gravitate to dark humor. Fairchild once likened her personality to a belt sander, a fitting description if she doesn’t know you or thinks you’re some sort of shifty character. Slow to trust, only a selected few are allowed into a closed circle of people she trusts. Those can count on her even in the direst of circumstances. Her worst fear is losing someone from this closed circle, as it happened on the Irene. Though she can defend herself if her ship is boarded, it is a perfect example of someone using tools above their skill level, as the rifle’s great potential is usually squandered by Astrid’s inability to shoot straight.
Protector Riot Control System - Armor covering the torso, elbows, front legs, knees and neck. Although the breastplate is rated to stop pistol rounds with decent reliability, the rest of the armor is meant to protect from batons, knives and thrown bottles. Though it’s saved her life once or twice, she’s grown fond of it mainly because it came with so many pouches and pockets. The helmet is usually kept hanging from her belt, only used when absolutely necessary.
Relationships: Most people Astrid considered friends perished on the Irene, leaving a rather bitter misfit. She hasn’t been in contact with her mother since she joined the Irene’s crew and doesn’t intend to change that. Other:

Astrid is voiced by Ashley Burch (Aloy, Horizon: Zero Dawn).
Much like her former crew, Astrid harbors strong distrust of the Satasi due to their natural abilities.
