Darcy Faith Shepherd
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME? WHAT DO THEY PREFER TO BE CALLED? "Name’s Darcy. A bit of an odd name for a girl, I know. My mother would have these strange obsessions when she was pregnant with me and my siblings. Pride and Prejudice with me. Phantom of the Opera with my sister, Christine. Wuthering Heights for my brother who has the strangest name of all... but he just goes by Heath now." She laughs and takes a small sip of her coffee. A brief silence hangs in the air as a smile tints her lips. You can tell that she has distracted herself with memories and decide to simply call her by her name. HOW ARE THEY BEST RECOGNIZED IN A CROWD? "The red hair doesn't give me away? I would blend in with everyone else, otherwise." Her red hair is fading around dark brown roots. To the untrained eye, it looks like it may have been professionally done; however, Darcy has no shame in admitting that she did the job herself with a $3 box of hair color from Walmart. It compliments her tan skin and green eyes. WHAT IS A STRANGER'S FIRST IMPRESSION UPON MEETING THEM? HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER SEE THEMSELVES? “I like to think of myself as put-together, confident, and relaxed. I want to be the person that people feel comfortable talking to.” She shrugs as she tucks a stray strand of hair back behind her ear. “I suppose you can say that I am a ‘fake it til you make it’ kind of girl.” A stranger would probably see Darcy as relaxed, but definitely not confident or put-together. It would become clear very quickly that she gets lost in her own thoughts quite often. WHERE DID THEY GROW UP? WHERE DO THEY FEEL AT HOME? “Duskwick - born and raised! You know, it’s a bit silly. Growing up all I wanted to do was leave this town. I thought it was the worst place in the world. Once I graduated high school, I set out to college. God, I thought I was grown and knew everything!” Darcy laughs and it takes a moment for her to compose herself. When she looks back at you, there are tears in her eyes and you’re not sure if they are from laughing too much or… something else. “I just moved back here last week.” WHO ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THEIR LIVES? “Definitely my family. Christine and Heath keep me grounded. If only our parents could see us now - They wouldn’t believe that we actually get along now!” WHAT IS THEIR PROFESSION, SKILL OR LIFESTYLE? WHAT DO THEY THINK THEIR STRENGTHS ARE? WHAT ARE THEIR ACTUAL STRENGTHS? “I’m an aspiring author, artist, and model.” She laughs and takes another sip of her coffee, “If we’re being honest, though… I’m not sure what I want to do with my life. I’m taking a bit of a break from being a go-getter. Trying to slow down and just enjoy things. I take things one day at a time. When I’m ready to plan again, I will… but not right now.” Darcy knows her own limitations and is able to step back from situations and think them through. She’s not known for rushing headlong into a scenario without thinking about it first. Friends used to call her the “voice of reason”. WHAT ARE THEIR FEARS, FLAWS AND SECRETS? Silence greets you with this question. The grip around her wam mug tightens as she watches pedestrians outside the coffee house window. If you happened to look into her diary, you would see a plethora of pages that carry words of self-doubt. She’s afraid of letting her family and herself down. She’s afraid of being forgotten. She’s afraid of being wrong. Her laughter and jokes are safety blankets for a girl who is deeply insecure. It would kill her if her family found out that failing her last college semester is the reason behind her return home. WHAT DO THEY WANT MOST? WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY NEED? “I want to be successful - to make my family proud.” From your brief time talking with her, it appears that Darcy may need to think of herself first and foremost before anyone else. You can’t pour from an empty cup. IF YOUR CHARACTER COULD HAVE ANY SUPERNATURAL ABILITY, WHAT WOULD IT BE? “Going back in time would be useful, I think. Or maybe to see the future? To be honest, I’ve never even thought about it. Flying might be pretty cool…” WHY ARE THEY HERE IN DUSKWICK? WHAT IS THEIR OPINION OF THE STRANGE RUMORS? “Rumors? What rumors? I haven’t been back very long so i guess I haven’t had a chance to hear anything yet. Why? Did something happen?” HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THIS CHARACTER CHANGE AND DEVELOP? I would like to see Darcy become more confident. She spends a lot of her time thinking about how she is representing her family and whether or not she is letting them down. To see her break away from that and start putting herself first a little bit would be excellent. This would also mean becoming honest with herself about what she has done and why she has done it. PITCH A SMALL SUBPLOT THAT WOULD BE PERSONALLY MEANINGFUL TO YOUR CHARACTER. At some point in the beginning of the RP, I would like for Christina to go missing. Both girls would be spending time out on the town and suddenly Christina is nowhere to be seen. Finding her would be a main goal of course but in the search for Christina, Darcy finds herself.
