How naive of him, who had seen the worst of humanity, been a part of it. It was funny actually. The reason he chose this creature, a wisp, is because it was the closest thing to being pure in his eyes. A literal spirit, a new beginning, a chance to be reborn and be forgiven his past crimes. And so, by trying to overlook his past he had also overlooked each of their pasts'. All those humans trapped in monstrous bodies, he had forgiven them as he had forgiven himself. But to begin with, what type of humans would the Devil himself choose as his champions if among them he was also chosen? He had been too careless. This whole thing felt like a dream. A floating glowing fur ball that shoots orbs of magic? Which can absorb crystals to replenish energy? He had been half asleep this whole time. The pain gave him a wake up call. This was all very real and very painful. Even the time when a bullet pierced straight through his shoulder couldn't compare to this, to this feeling of being eaten, consumed. "WRETCHED VERMIN"- the wisp yelled with whatever voice it had from wherever it came from as the rat ripped a chunk of flesh from his body. The shock almost made him drop his crystals but his mental fortitude and pain tolerance inherent from his other life were higher than that of the average person. That pain didn't make him black out or freeze in place unable to do anything. Turning around ,while a crystal in his grasp vanished, ready to attack he stopped once he gave a quick glance to his surroundings... The situation was that he was surrounded by monsters. Each and every one of them. Humans? Don't make him laugh. Look at those filthy diseased looking rats with their stained teeth and mouths. Their mouths stained with blood, his blood... Even before his mind decided, his body had already taken the initiative to make a hasty retreat as soon as the flesh and blood disconnected from his body. As the lizards attacked him, throwing poison like it was spit, he made to dodge the projectiles while running. The poison globes had a visible arched trajectory which he would try to read and to dodge accordingly. He dashed off keeping a balanced distance between the group he just left and the attacking lizards as he only looked but for a moment towards the path that he would take before turning to look back and keep track of both groups of enemies. His only hope was to make it to the lake. Unlike other creatures which had to swim to traverse water, wisps simply floated above it. From there, even if hostiles were still chasing him, they would be significantly slowed giving him room to create a large enough distance in order to safely retreat. The only problem would be the ranged attackers, specifically the lizards.
