[@Lyla] [s]Is there any estimate available on how high the cutoff number for accepted characters is or will be ? So I could know if it's still viable to continue my efforts to get my CS done because in the past few months I've spent a huge lot of time on developing characters in vain for different, but ultimately similar reasons. I'd like to avoid this being the next one :/[/s] Okay forget about what I've said earlier. Here is my application :) [sub]I hope it's not too bad... *ducks and runs*[/sub]

Týfurkh Gandjar

Character Summary
Name: Týfurkh Gandjar Aliases: Othiosyyia Titles: None so far Age: 26 Place of Origin: Varsyn Kingdom: Mavaughal Gender: Male Time of Death: 42 years ago
Physical Attributes
Eyes: Very weak blue, almost gray Hair: Extremely long, dense and wavy with a bright, but not very intense color. Day To Day Attire: He prefers simple, affordable and laid-back clothing. A simple woolen shirt of sufficient thickness to withstand the day's temperature, a pair of trousers of equal choice, sturdy leather boots and a thin leather girdle is all he deems to be necessary. Strengths:

Physical strength: He can easily be considered a walking tower of a man in terms of height. While his muscles aren't exactly bulging one would be surprised by his squeeze -- that is, if the bones in one's hand would actually survive it.
Charismatic: He might not be a trained diplomat, but he knows how to get along smoothly without making excessive use of a trail of slime.
Resourcefulness: A blacksmith can do metalwork, but he can do the engineering. Tech and Magitech just... suits him.
Weaknesses:

Untrained: Knowing which end of a sword to reach for is one thing, effectively wielding it is another. While he's certainly capable of ascending along a steep learning curve he currently simply has never subjected himself to any professional combat training in the traditional sense. That doesn't mean he's defenseless, but he has reason to consider himself rather screwed up in a melee situation or when true marksmanship is required.
Slow: With his behemoth size and strength comes weight. Even without equipment he has to accelerate a tremendous lot. Better to watch if the floor you're standing on is sturdy...

Psychological Attributes
Considerate * Intelligent * Shy * Unforgiving Sexuality: Asexual Relationship Status: What relationship ? Personality: He is more than intelligent enough to build up an opinion on his own even on matters that exceed his current education by not a too grave amount, but any good leader would be given a good advise if being told to try and lure it out of him. Silently barricading oneself behind one's own mind's unaccessibility is a comforting thing and a tendency of him that certainly is noticeable. He dislikes debates, especially along a large number of people, but seldomly complains about it and just follows suit in the vast majority of cases, even though grumbling perhaps. This can be considered a hideous trap laid out by his personality: The moment his disagreement about other people's plans, statements or general behaviour becomes too strong and the moment he can fingerpoint it at a specific individual too easily he can latch onto a belief that said individual just is incompetent, ugly, unbearable or whatever. While pushing him that far is a challenge, getting him out of that state is an even greater one. Aside from that serious flaw however he's quite sociable and open-minded.
Skills

MECHANICAL TINKERING (Grandmaster): Týfurkh has a devilishly good understanding of physics as far as the science has developed. Given the necessary resources, tools, time and opportunity he is capable of creating true miracles -- even though they more often than not might not be suitable for the fierceness of an open fight. One doesn't want one's feet getting stuck in one of his traps though, probably.
ENCHANTING (Master): He's capable of boosting his device's capabilities by upgrading them from 'simple' contraptions made out of nothing but matter to true Magitech. However he might also give your everyday item an enchantment, but beware: Even he can't just make a staff of fireballs out of your staff if he has no idea about how to make fireballs in the first place -- and that's the problem where his lack of professional training kicks in. He has taught himself things like reinforcing the strength of materials, how to convert magic into mechanical power and such, not that fancy, obvious stuff most mages walk around with.
WRESTLING (Master): No, that's not exactly a viable method against anyone with a decent sword or even just a dagger, but once those things are out of the game he might just flatten you in one primitive move of felt unstoppability. A last ditch defense that should not be underestimated.
SPELLBREAKING (Expert): There's an unwritten law in physics that effects always come in pairs of opposites. He knows this can also be said about magic. A curse pretty much is a special kind of an enchantment and as such it can also be removed, at least theoretically.
ASSASSINATOR (Expert): As devilish as his inventions can be his tactics about how to deploy them. He's quick to learn about an enemy's weaknesses and to figure out ways how to exploit them, even with his in some areas severely limited means.
HORSERIDING (Apprentice): He would be your average rider if he wouldn't be so... enormous.
MARKSMANSHIP (Apprentice): He's learning it, slowly but steadily.

Magic
Nothing out of what has already been listed in the Skills section.
Artifacts

Burikya Da-Chaleion: A rather popular bedtime story tells about the early days of mankind, the time where things looked bleak and the world as if dwarves were meant to dominate it, not humans. The dwarven king Maghammadon himself however felt pity for mankind's struggle to improve itself over the level of pure peasantry and savage survival, so he thought they could learn from a good example about the principles of nature and what can be achieved by their proper application. He ordered one of his own kind's finest artisans to creatue such and it was thought that a crossbow would be a good gift for a race which, at that time, largely depended on hunting. Of course in reality there are no dwarves, but it is a somewhat striking fact that the appearance of this item matches the description in the bedtime story down to the finest detail. The question is which was first: The story or the crossbow ? Luckily for its user this is a purely academic question: It and its accuracy are impervious to moisture, heat, and mechanical disturbance. The penetration power is far beyond what is known by other crossbows, but the time required to reload is probably even higher and requires a degree of strength that will make all but very few people fall into despair. Along with it comes a quiver of bolts which can be reused indefinitely if they can be salvaged from their victim's bodies.
The Polymorph: It is not truly known as an artifact. In fact it's not known at all. What usually looks like a small hammer has in fact be created by Týfurkh's grandfather in his late days in an act of pure annoyance about the crampedness of his workshop. One definitely has to use the word usually when it comes to the thign's appearance: What kind of tool it will present itself as purely depends on its users thoughts, intentions and patience. As long as it's feasible you'd be surprised by what The Polymorph can make out of itself. Definitely a very handy, most probably unique tool.
Harristrakz's Fortune: Harristrakz was the first in his dinasty to rule the kingdom of Mavaughal. Malicious rumors have it that his order to forge this armor for Týfurkh has cost his own family at least half of their wealth since the kingdom's budget could only afford the other half, but at this point one should add that Mavaughal is very small compared to others and its overall productivity limited by the searing heat of the desert. Still the piece is a lot more than he would ever have asked for by himself: A full suit of steel-reinforced leather armor that actually fits his body and is of superb quality. Very, very, very pricey and not seen anywhere else.

History
Myth / Legend: The Gandjar family has been rather well reknown even outside of Mavaughal's boundaries for repeatedly giving rise to serious and capable inventors and technicians for many decades, but their art has never brought them the great wealth they have constantly hoped for -- or Týfurkh's ancestors constantly spent it on developing real progress they kept for themselves. Given a few things he has inherited from them this could very well be true. So far this can hardly be considered any kind of legend. That changes however when it comes to Týfurkh's announcement of death. At the time of his demise he had already become one of the most well known members of his family for the series of deeds he had done for the king himself, Harristrakz I. It was only natural that his sudden demise spawned a surge of interest in the matter among Mavaughal's general population. Those who are closely associated with the king's court at that time still are convinced that in the months before the tragedy, Týfurkh was on to something truly important. Important enough to -- one day maybe -- change the way Mavaughal's inhabitants are living entirely. One thing is certain: It had nothing to do with the black, highly combustible, greasy and stinky substance that has been known to occur at or close to the surface of the desert for long. It didn't go unnoticed though that the king himself was very busy to acquire large quantities of naturally occuring, magnetized minerals. Also the royal court's healer wrote down in his report that the injuries sustained by the king's most favorite engineer were 'peculiar, to say the least. As if a streak of fire had entered his body at one point and exited it at another, choosing a path that cannot be explained by what a real fire would be expected to do.' At least that's what has leaked out over the decades since then. Parents: Oddur & Umiya Týfurkh Siblings: None. Childhood: Nothing out of the ordinary except for the fact that his talent started to emerge very early onwards. Adulthood: By the time Týfurkh had become a well established representative of his small 'trade' -- if one wants to use this word. He rather quickly rose among the ranks of his competitors until the king himself took notice of him. From then onwards his career really took off until he was involved in a few of the most important and ambitious projects the royal court had to offer at the time. It can reasonably be assumed that he has also been given the authority to start a few on his own.
