Bastien Thomas

Bastien sighed as the sounds of the morning ran throughout the alleys of the Shiganshina district. He gazed at the clock mounted at his wall, tapping his foot impatiently. A half-finished sketch of his room laid on his desk. It was simple, with only a bed, a desk, a chair, and a dresser. He leaned back in his chair, before standing up suddenly and rapping his knuckles on the trapdoor above him. Afterwards, he changed into clean clothes as the sounds of his parents waking and also getting ready echoing above him. Soon, the trapdoor opened. Bastien looked up, his hair still sticking up in various places as he desperately combed it. Finally, he won the struggle, and his hair stayed flattened, albeit a bit wild. His adoptive father glanced down at him as Bastien climbed the ladder. "Are you sure you want to go into town today?" Bastien nodded silently. As he stepped into the main level of his house, the smell of breakfast greeted him. He waited patiently for his mother to set the table and finish preparing the meal, then sat down and wolfed down his food ravenously. Bastien's mother shot him a look, and Bastien gave an apologetic shrug. After he finished his meal, he donned his coat and left the house, a small pouch of coins in his pocket. Today was one of the few days he got out of the house, and he enjoyed them. The first stop he made was the market, looking to see if anything caught his fancy. He looked around, before a candy store grabbed his attention. He entered, looking around at the various selections. Similar activities occupied his morning, visiting a bakery, a butcher shop, and a farmer until something broke the normal routine. Bastien stopped in the middle of a visit to a bookstore as a cry graced his ears. "The Survey Corps are back!" He weighed over the pros and cons of going to see, before ultimately deciding the books could wait. He followed the crowd heading towards the gates, the excitement slowly growing inside of him.
